Diabetes Specialist Nurse (Band 7)

We have a fantastic opportunity available for apart timepermanent position within our team.

The post holder will join our established multi-disciplinary specialist team at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust within our Weston campus and Bristol campus.

The diabetes nursing team work 5 days a week to provide expert diabetes nursing care and to facilitate safe discharges, with the expectation to start 6 days a week in the near future (including weekends).

The current team provide specialist diabetes care across the Weston division, within both inpatient and outpatient services at Weston General Hospital and Bristol Royal Infirmary.

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual who will be committed to developing services to ensure people with diabetes receive high quality care.

*Please note that this role is across both Weston and Bristol campuses*

Main duties of the job

You will need an in-depth clinical knowledge of diabetes, which should be supported by recent experience/qualifications and the ability to initiate and titrate injectable treatments and oral diabetes medications competently.

Experience in most aspects of diabetes care and the ability to work autonomously within a supportive multidisciplinary diabetes team is essential. You will have on going responsibility for a patient caseload and will be expected to make informed clinical decisions, working within a comprehensive range of services including gestational diabetes and insulin pump service.

The post holder will be line managed by the Lead diabetes CNS.

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications Essential

RGN.1st Level qualification Current NMC Registration 1st Degree in nursing or health related subject Relevant accredited post registration at level 3 Qualification in Teaching and Assessing Evidence of Masters level academic study or willingness to work towards Masters (in relevant health related subject)

Desirable

Non-Medical Prescribing Management Qualification

Knowledge and Experience Essential

Thorough and up to date knowledge of nursing theory and best practice within diabetes Significant relevant clinical experience Substantial current diabetes speciality experience Evidence of recent teaching experience

Experience of undertaking research or audit projects Experience and knowledge of advanced practice/protocols Experience of running autonomous diabetes clinics Experience of diabetes in pregnancy Experience of insulin pump therapy
