Job summary
General Adult Consultant in the Rotherham Community Mental Health Team
The successful applicants will be one of two consultants providing day to day medical support to the South Community Teams in Rotherham. The base for this team is Swallownest Court in Rotherham with easy access to the M1 motorway. There is a Trust wide community review taking place from this year which will change the community teams function and bases to align with Neighbourhood working.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will be expected to support the multi-professional teams to determine need and deliver care across the range of community and care settings served by the mental health teams.
o The post holder is expected to work in both organic and functional aspects of mental health services for older adults.
o To provide medical leadership, consultation, advice, and guidance within the Community Mental Health Teams, ensuring that care and treatment are safe and effective, efficient and within national guidelines.
o To provide medical assessment, diagnosis, and formulation to appropriate patients. On completion of assessment, advise on diagnosis and treatment within the teams and to external service providers.
o To provide medical care to patients with severe mental health problems requiring enhanced care coordination.
o To liaise, advise and consult with hospital doctors and primary care clinicians on diagnosis, treatment and management of patients.
o To conduct assessments and make recommendations under the Mental Health Act.

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
oFull registration with the GMC oInclusion on the GMC Specialist Register for Adult Psychiatry or a trainee within six months of completing their CCT. Would consider a candidate with MRCPsych and AC approval
Desirable
oMRC Psych or equivalent higher qualification. oHigher Specialist Training in Adult Psychiatry (e.g. SpR scheme) oMD, Management qualification, other professional qualification (e.g. CBT, PSI, CAT)
Experience Essential
oPrevious experience within General Adult Psychiatry oExperience of psychiatric practice in a range of settings. oExperience of audit and an understanding of the principles of clinical governance
Desirable
oPrior experience working as a Consultant in Adult Psychiatry. oEvidence of development of special interest oEvidence of development of special interest oProven commitment to improving the quality of clinical care oOther special interest/expertise relevant to the post.

Skill & Abilities Essential
oAll applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues demonstrated by one of the following: .That applicants have undertaken undergraduate medical training in English; .have achieved the following scores in the academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) in a single sitting within 24 months at time of application - Overall 7.5, Speaking 7.5, Reading 7.5, and Writing 7.5 oIf applicants believe they have adequate communication skills but do not fit into one of these examples they must provide supporting evidence. oClinical supervision experience/skills. The aptitude and potential to develop a leadership role within the service with special emphasis on leading on quality and clinical standards and engaging in service improvement

oAbility to undertake training/mentoring of medical staff in junior grades and enthusiasm for education.
