Full time;37.5 hours per week Shift times: Monday Friday (will require some evenings potentially to support clinics)

We are seeking an experienced urology nurse to join our the Surgical team as a Urology Clinical Nurse Specialist.

This is a role which will see you working to grow and develop our existing urology service at The Princess Grace Hospital and our satellite sites. You will be supported by an established team of Urology CNS based across other HCA facilities. The Princes Grace Hospital has a team of CNS posts covering a broad range of specialities including gynae, colorectal, IPC and orthopaedics.

Main duties of the job

The Surgical Urology CNS will have both clinical and service development responsibilities (supported by our business development team). Our robotic prostatectomy service is growing and now needs specialist CNS support as do our other urology sub-specialities. There is an opportunity and desire to significantly grow the service, we are looking for a dynamic and focused urology nurse who will embrace these opportunities and seek others.

You will have extensive experience in the speciality and have the ability to efficiently manage your time whilst maintaining the outstanding quality of care that the Lister Hospital is recognised for.

You will establish clinics and services at the Princess Grace Hospital and it's satellite sites that support Consultant led care whilst enabling patients to complete their urological pathway at our facilities. You will work with the multi-disciplinary team across the Princess Grace Hospital to ensure optimum timing for patients diagnostic and interventional procedures

Job description Job responsibilities

The Clinical Nurse Specialist is responsible for supporting patients throughout their illness, from pre-diagnosis onwards, so that the patient is well supported throughout. This is often referred to as a key worker.

They care for patients throughout their diagnosis and treatment. They take a key role in supporting the patients during their treatment and are an essential member of the multidisciplinary team (MDT). The Clinical Nurse Specialist is a critical and consistent contact point for patients who often will need to interact with different parts of the hospital in order to receive optimal treatment.

The Clinical Nurse Specialist will;

Build trust with the physicians and patients through multidisciplinary care coordination.

Assist in educating patients about their disease so they can make informed decisions about their care.

Provide emotional support to the patient, family and caregivers.

Signpost patients to support networks, internally and externally.

Advocate for the patient in development of the treatment plan.

Manage a caseload within their own scope of practice, with support from the wider clinical team.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

NMC registered Nurse Extensive relevant post registration experience in Surgical Urology Mentoring /Teaching experience Experience in managing complex and difficult emotional situations Knowledge of current clinical advances and pathways of care relevant to specialty Evidence of continuous professional development in clinical area. (i.e. relevant short courses and study days) Completed relevant post graduate module (level 6 or 7) Evidence of Advanced Communication Skills (level 2 course), or willing to complete within the first year of employment.
