About this role

Job summary An exciting opportunity has arisen at Wye Valley NHS Trust for a Band 7 pharmacist to develop within a specialist clinical area, delivering high-quality clinical pharmacy services on a speciality ward and working closely with the multidisciplinary team to provide medicines optimisation. The post offers a structured progression to a Band 8a Specialist Pharmacist role, supported by completion of the Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy Practice and attainment of agreed clinical competencies, enabling the provision of specialist pharmaceutical expertise across designated service areas.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

Lead and support thepharmacy Service provided to theSurgical Specialties & Critical Care directorates.

Work closely with the consultantworkforce,theleadand specialistnurses, and other staff members associated with the pharmacy service to theSurgical Specialties & Critical Care directorates.

Be responsible forcoordinatingpharmacyclinicalservices to the Directorate,overseeandinvestigatemedicinesrelatedsafetyincidents in the Directorate,monitorfinancialand clinicalgovernancein the Directorate.

Lead on evidence-based prescribing advice to ensure effective,appropriate, sustainable,cost-effectiveand safe use of medicines and promote patient-centred care for all patients.

To lead on guidelines for the prescribing,administrationand storage ofsurgicalrelated medicines tofacilitategood practice within theSurgical Specialties & Critical Care directorates,within the Acute Trust and across the primary and secondary care interface.

To provide training and education to all levels ofHealthcareprofessionals in acute and primary care whilst linking into national networks to learn about developments to share across the network.

Tosupport 7-day clinical services to the Trust on a rotational weekend, public holiday and On Call (EDC) rota basis.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

MPharm & registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council as a Pharmacist Post graduate diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent experience to a similar level (for Band 7 need completion of Year 1, 30 credits) Independent Prescribing Qualification or prepared to be working towards this within 12 months of starting the role Evidence of CPD and study beyond registration in line with requirements for revalidation and demonstrating commitment to lifelong learning

Skills Essential

Communicate effectively to all levels of staff using a variety of methods (written, verbal, presentation) with a wide range of people across the organisation. Demonstrate a clear understanding of best practice and legal requirements relating to medicines storage, prescribing and administration

Desirable

Able to demonstrate a clear understanding of clinical pharmacy practice relating to a chosen speciality areaAble to demonstrate a clear understanding of clinical pharmacy practice relating to a chosen speciality area

Experience Essential

Relevant post registration experience as a hospital clinical pharmacist or primary care pharmacy setting with a proportion of time in a clinical role Experience in influencing multi-professional teams to achieve medicines optimisation

Desirable

Experience of investigating complaints and medication incidents within the department and the Trust
