Job summary

INTERNAL ONLY TO NORTH CUMBRIA INTEGRATED CARE NHS FOUNDATION TRUST (NCIC) EMPLOYEES

Deliver Moving and Handling training programmes to a variety of multidisciplinary teams (clinical and non-clinical) in both the acute and community setting to meetlegislative requirements, external governance and role specific identified training needs.Understand the appropriate biomechanical principles in relation to maintaining muscular skeletal health in relation both staff/carers and patients.Contribute to the development and evaluation of the distribution of care offered to patients in a variety of settings with regard to the safe moving and handling in accordance with local policies, Trust procedures and Health and Safety guidelines and also within their individual Code of Professional Conduct.Assist in the development of moving and handling services by delivering exemplary clinical moving and handling practice in all areas of the Trust, contributing to patient and staff safety at times and reducing potential moving and handling incidents.Support the work of the Moving and Handling Team by contributing to the Trust's Risk Reduction Management Systems, Health and Wellbeing and Health and Safety strategies. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the legislation, Codes of Practice and the guidance underpinning Moving and Handling practice.

Main duties of the job

Actively contribute and participate in the planning of appropriate training systems required by a variety of multi professional development needs by producing and delivering Moving and Handling training courses to meet both statutory duties and Care group requirements. Contribute to the evaluation and development of training programmes to ensuring the Trust's continued compliance with all Governance targets and legislative requirements. Deliver a range of tailored M&H courses which reflect current best practice, both for patient handling and inanimate loads. Support the Moving and Handling Team in producing and updating a range of manual handling resources, e.g. scenarios building, information/instructions and eLearning packages for use within the Trust. Set up training rooms and resource equipment/venues as required to ensure that the correct tools are available for use. Maintain accurate and detailed records e.g. lesson plans, course content, peer observations, risk assessments, audits and training attendance records. Document and inform the Moving and Handling clinical lead if any participants are unable to perform safe handling and/or have been unable to complete the practical elements of the training. Liaise with colleagues in Learning and Development to ensure training records are accurate, comprehensive and up to date.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Registered Nurse/Allied Health Professional with a diploma/ degree or professionally equivalent qualification

Desirable

Evidence of having completed an extended Manual Handling course. Relevant teaching qualification e.g. PTTLS/DTTLS/ PGCE/ENB7318 NST 307, ENB 998/730 or equivalent D32/33 or equivalent

Knowledge and Experience Essential

Knowledge and use of evidence-based practice. Knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance with reference to M&H. Sound knowledge of a range of M&H equipment. Sound knowledge of the risk assessment process. An awareness of posture and good back care. Experience of working in a healthcare setting with experience of care planning, risk assessments and patient moving and handling.

Desirable

Experience of working in an acute or community setting. Member of National Back Exchange Evidence of practical teaching experience. Experience in preparing written reports.
