Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to grow our Nursing Team and recruit an additional Healthcare Assistant working 12-18.5 hours per week (days/times to be agreed).
The role would be a key part of our delivery of services to patients at the Practice, undertaking specific clinical duties, and working alongside our entire team.
Main duties of the job
Consult with patients and their families to undertake assessments of patients needsDeliver clinical skills such as phlebotomy, blood pressure monitoring, basic observations, wound care, ECGs, injections (under instruction from GPs), urine dipping, health checks and long-term condition checksDeliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion long-term condition management and patient educationSupport call/recall of specific groups of patients including owning lists oneselfProvide clinical support to the nursing team and other healthcare professionals within the PracticeAct as a chaperone as requiredProvide support during minor operations as required
About us
Runnymede Medical Practice carers cares for 12,000 patients across two sites spanning the Berkshire / Surrey border. One site is located in Old Windsor and the other in Englefield Green. We are part of the Windsor Primary Care Network (PCN).
We are a fully accredited training Practice and fully support the ongoing professional development and training of all of our staff.
Your would be joining our strong, friendly, supportive nursing team of two Practice Nurses, a Nurse Associate (who is undertaking her Student Nurse training), a Healthcare Assistant and a Phlebotomist. The nursing team work closely together and have regular meetings and shared education time.
Our wider clinical team consists of 6 GPs, and a Paramedic Practitioner, alongside clinical colleagues employed by the PCN based in the Practice. We have a stable, supportive non-clinical team.

The following are the core responsibilities of the Healthcare Assistant in delivering health services. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks. This will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:
Consult with patients and their families to undertake assessments of patient needDeliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion, long-term condition management and patient educationDeliver clinical skills such as phlebotomy, blood pressure monitoring, basic observations, wound care, ECGs, injections (under instruction from GPs), urine dipping, health checks and long-term condition checksSupport call/recall of specific groups of patients including owning lists oneselfBe an integral part of the Practice teamProvide clinical support to registered nurses and other healthcare professionals within the organisationDeliver basic clinical care interventions under supervision, supporting continuity of care and patient safety initiativesAct as a chaperone as requiredEnsure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportationProvide support during minor operations as requiredEnsure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the IPC PolicyWork within national and local protocolsBe aware of your duties and responsibilities regarding current legislation and adhere to Practice policies and procedures on Safeguarding Adults and Safeguarding ChildrenRecognise the boundaries of their practice and know when and to whom patients should be referredSupport in the delivery of enhanced services and other service requirementsSupport the administrative team on an as-required basisUndertake all mandatory training and induction programmesContribute to and embrace the spectrum of clinical governanceMaintain a clean, tidy, effective working area at all timesAttend regular team & Practice meetingsAttend a formal appraisal with their manager at least every 12 months. Once a performance/training objective has been set, progress will be reviewed on a regular basis so that new objectives can be agreed
Person Specification
Clinical Knowledge and Skills Essential
Ability to undertake patient medicals including height. weight, BP, pulse and BMI Understanding of the principles of ECGs Wound care / removal of suture and staples Ability to undertake injections & undertake the requirement for PSDs with associated policies Able to work within own scope of practice and understanding of when to refer to colleagues Clinical IT system user skills and ability to record accurate clinical notes Understanding of safeguarding adults and children
Desirable
Able to perform venepuncture Broad knowledge of clinical governance Understanding chaperone procedures
Experience Essential
Experience of working with the general public Experience of working in a healthcare environment
Desirable
Has worked in a primary care environment Understanding of infection prevention and control measures
Qualifications Essential
Has completed the Care Certificate, or equivalent, qualification Proof of any courses / training completed commensurate with the post
