Salary: £40,000 - 70,000 per year
Requirements
- Strong commercial experience with Python development
- Passion for writing clean, maintainable, and testable code
- Solid understanding of Linux environments
- Experience with SQL and advanced database querying techniques
- Strong grasp of algorithms, data structures, and software engineering fundamentals
- Computer Science degree or equivalent technical background
- Experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD), Behaviour-Driven Development (BDD), or similar testing methodologies is highly desirable
- Experience implementing AI-enabled software development lifecycles and using modern engineering tools such as Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, or similar AI-assisted development platforms is highly desirable
- Experience with PostgreSQL and/or Snowflake is preferred
- Experience with modern Python web frameworks such as Django, Flask, or FastAPI is preferred
- Experience with event-driven architectures and streaming technologies such as Apache Kafka is preferred
- Experience with data orchestration and pipeline platforms such as Apache Airflow is preferred
- Java development experience is preferred
- Financial technology experience in areas such as market data, order management, algorithmic trading, exchange technology, financial systems integration, or regulatory compliance is preferred
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and enhance batch processing and operational systems supporting a leading exchange operator
- Design and build robust, highly reliable Python applications underpinning our clients European trading operations
- Collaborate with Product, Business Development, and Sales teams to create new exchange services and features
- Promote software craftsmanship through clean architecture, maintainable code, and rigorous testing
- Participate in research and development initiatives, evaluating and implementing emerging technologies
- Support critical production systems through a rotating support rota
- Respond to incidents, contribute to root cause analysis, and drive continuous improvement
- Share knowledge and promote technical excellence with engineering teams across the global organisation
