About this role

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated, enthusiastic and innovative individual to join our Tuberculosis (TB) Nursing Team on a 6-month secondment.

While previous experience in TB is not essential, you will be able to demonstrate a keen interest in this specialist field. You will provide valuable support to patients receiving care from the TB team and act as a role model for staff working outside the specialist service.

You must possess excellent interpersonal skills, along with the drive, vision and initiative to motivate others and help meet the demands of the service. You will have experience in maintaining patient records and databases and an understanding of current TB care pathways.

In addition to being a qualified nurse, the successful candidate will demonstrate excellent IT and computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, and a genuine enthusiasm for the TB speciality.

Experience in clinical audit and data collection is desirable. You must be able to communicate effectively with colleagues, patients and stakeholders at all levels, manage your own caseload effectively, and work independently while contributing positively as part of a multidisciplinary team. You will also be expected to participate in ongoing audit and service improvement programmes.

Main duties of the job

You will work collaboratively with patients, their families and the wider multidisciplinary team (MDT), delivering high-quality, patient-centred care across both hospital and community settings. Working closely with Public Health colleagues, you may also be required to support community screening programmes as service needs dictate.

A key aspect of the role will involve supporting and delivering TB outpatient clinics, including nurse-led screening and vaccination programmes for both adults and children. You will provide ongoing case management for patients receiving care through the TB service, ensuring they receive comprehensive support throughout their treatment journey.

The successful candidate will undertake supportive home visits where appropriate, assessing patients' needs and providing timely feedback to the MDT to ensure coordinated care planning.

You may also be required to review patients within the acute setting, carrying out holistic assessments of their physical, emotional and social needs. In doing so, you will provide specialist advice and support to local clinical teams to help optimise patient care and outcomes.

You will be an active contributor to the wider MDT, collaborating with colleagues across Greater Manchester's TB network through cohort review, audit activities and service development initiatives.

A full UK driving licence, access to your own vehicle and a willingness to travel across the Northern Care Alliance footprint are essential requirements for this role.
