Job summary
We are inviting applications for a full time, Consultant in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. This is a new appointment following the retirement of a previous colleague and represents the first step in re-establishing Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery services within East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust.
We would also welcome applications from those wishing to work part time.
Main duties of the job
All consultants in the department have a continuing and individual responsibility for the care of patient (adults and children) in their charge and a general responsibility to provide, in conjunction with their colleagues, an effective Oral Maxillofacial Surgery Service to meet the needs of the local population within the resources available.
Key tasks:
Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in OMFS Provision of out-patient services in general and head and neck services To work with colleagues, both medical and nursing to improve and advance the OMFS service To share with colleagues the responsibility for the management of the department. Supervision and where appropriate training of trainees, junior medical staff, nursing staff, primary care colleagues and medical students. Actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning clinical governance and audit Having responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing professional development (CPD).

Specialist Register for OMFS or be eligible for entry onto this register within 6 months of application Basic dental qualification GDC registered Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCST in OMFS Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems relating to OMFS Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the clinical care of OMFS patients Ability to advise and run a smooth, efficient OMFS service for both in-patients and outpatients Ability to organise and manage outpatient priorities and treatment Ability and willingness to work within the Trust and NHS performance framework and targets Experience of supervising trainees, and nurse specialists and SAS doctors Ability to work in a team Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other agencies
