The Interventional Cardiology department is one of the biggest in the UK and Europe. Interventional Cardiology, along with Electrophysiology makes up one of the three clinical directorates within the Barts Heart Centre at St Bartholomew's Hospital. The Barts Heart Centre is the biggest in the UK with its complement of 10 catherisation labs (5 of which are dedicated to Intervention).
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will work within the Interventional Cardiology and structural heart intervention at Barts Heart Centre and will participate in the Heart Attack Centre rota (1 PA). The job plan will provide expert care to an expanding population of patients. The post-holder will be expected to be an independent operator for diagnostic and interventional cardiology procedures including TAVI. The post-holder will contribute fully to the general management of cardiac patients through ward rounds and outpatient clinics, and will be required to have received full accreditation in cardiology as a trainee.
The post-holder will support the overall delivery of inpatient and outpatient services, as well as the advice and guidance helpline.
Opportunities exist within all the departments to undertake research and education as a part of the Centre of Excellence Strategy of the Trusts.
This is an outline program, and the post holder will be expected to discuss and agree a detailed job plan including personal and professional objectives with the Clinical Directors for Interventional Cardiology and structural heart intervention

Delivery and organisation of direct clinical care to patients, through all parts of the department, sharing equally in the workload and involving a multi-disciplinary workforce; to support other members of staff in doing so also.
Provide clinical leadership, improve the patient experience and ensure the highest quality clinical care.
Dedication to service development and quality improvement.
Undertaking research both laboratory and clinically-based, within the limits of clinical and service workload publishing and presenting work nationally and internationally.
Regular attendance and contribution to the Interventional Cardiology and Cardiovascular Disease Prevention MDTs.
Full engagement with the current Interventional Cardiology and Cardiovascular Prevention consultants, ensuring shared clinical decision-making and collaborative case management.
Person Specification
Professional Qualifications Essential
Full registration with the GMC/eligible for registration CCT in Cardiology or within 6 months of at interview date MRCP (UK) or equivalent
Desirable
A professional qualification in medical education Higher degree e.g. PhD/ MD submitted/awarded (copy to be brought to the interview)
Clinical Experience & Skills Essential
Fully trained in general cardiology, cardiac interventional procedures Fully trained in TAVI and able to operate independently

Experience in intervention for mitral/tricuspid or other structural interventions
Clinical Knowledge Essential
All aspects of interventional, preventative and general cardiology
Audit, Management & IT Essential
