About this role

Job summary Applications are invited for the Birmingham Facial Plastic Surgery Fellowship, which provides an excellent opportunity for the trainee to experience the high-volume workload in a supra regional university teaching hospital with multidisciplinary focus. This post is to commence on 5th August 2026 on a fixed term basis until 3rd August 2027.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will be expected to undertake cross-site working with a formal job plan although the on-calls will be based at HGS, the clinics will be mainly at Heartlands and QE Hospitals and the elective theatre sessions will be mainly at Solihull and QE Hospitals (further restructuring may be necessary after the COVID-19 pandemic). The job plan will include a commitment to clinic, theatre and on call duties.

The appointee will be involved in running clinics, theatres and being included in the ENT middle grade on-call rota at Heartlands Hospital.

Job description Job responsibilities

Our aim is to provide a comprehensive training in the management of a wide range of facial plastic surgery conditions. In particular, the fellowship offers exposure to nasal surgical procedures as well as surgical and reconstructive management of the head and neck skin cancer patients. Outpatient commitments include general and specialist clinics as well the ENT emergency clinic.

Our department has close connections with the University of Birmingham with Professor of Head & Neck Surgery. In addition, the ENT team contributes to the skin MDTs and the facial palsy clinic. From an academic perspective, the department is currently involved in national clinical trials and there is plenty of opportunity to undertake research during the fellowship.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Registered with GMC FRCS (ORL HNS) or CCT Holder or equivalent qualification

Experience Essential

Broad based clinical experience in ENT. Able to manage common emergency cases. Competent in emergency surgical skills. Competent in head and neck operations and diagnostics. Keen to learn advanced techniques in specialized ENT surgery
