Job summary
The Trust is seeking to appoint a full time (10 PA) acute On-Call Consultant Paediatrician with an interest/expertise in Oncology. The post holder must have a minimum of 6 months paediatric oncology experience as a registrar at a primary treatment centre (PTC). A spin in oncology will be an advantage.
Your main base will be the Royal Surrey Hospital, but as part of our group model with Ashford and St Peter's, there will be cross cover with their patients and you will be expected to attend the joint MDT's, business and governance meetings.
The medical team will provide 5 day morning cover (Monday to Friday) and see and manageall ofthe oncology inpatients, prescribe electronicallychemotherapyand supervise the delivery of day case chemotherapy on the day unit/inpatient ward.
You must be fully registered with the GMC and hold a license to practice and be on the SpecialistRegister, orbe within 6 months ofattainingyour CCT or equivalent at the interview stage.
Main duties of the job
The Consultant will be expected to work with the Clinical Director in Paediatrics and other Consultants to promote the highest standards inPaediatric medical care. Theywill be expected to:
Be enthusiastic to develop the service and promoteimproved multi-disciplinary and multi-agency services for children
Promote the team approach to children's care, having due regard for the linking of acute, community, social, education and voluntary services.
Partake in Consultant appraisal and revalidation
Prior agreement to undertake any Supporting Professional Agreement activities elsewhere must be obtained from the Clinical Director.
Be the lead Local Paediatric Consultant for Oncologywith the help of the tertiary centre
We have regular student placements fromthe Universities of Surrey,Southamptonand Physicians Associates. The post-holder will be expected toparticipatein undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
This post consists of a mixture of outpatient and inpatient activity with the latter organised to improve consultant presence in the hospital outside office hours.There will be opportunity for working within our group model with Ashford and St. Peters hospital.Outpatient work will depend on the special interest of the successful applicant. Consideration will be given to applicants who wish to work less than full-time or in a job-share capacity.
