Job summary

Are you a keen, motivated, skilled sonographer looking to join a friendly supportive and professional team within a busy DGH?

Do you require a full- time post, or part time hours?

Are you keen to work autonomously within a service that is primarily sonographer led, but with the back up of a great team of Radiologists? If so, our ultrasound department is a great place to work , so come and look at our department and meet the Team!

You will be based at Leighton Hospital, but will occasionally rotate to our satellite hospital/ Community Diagnostic Hub, and our sites at Nantwich and Alsager Health Centres.

We are located within the heart of Cheshire, near to a major railway station and motorways. Beautiful walks, country pubs and picturesque villages are nearby. Nantwich is within 2 miles, and Chester, Manchester and Liverpool are all easily accessible.

We need sonographers with a variety of ultrasound skills including obstetrics, gynaecology, general, small parts, musculoskeletal and paediatrics.

Bank holidays and weekends are covered on a rota system.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidates will be technically skilled, reliable, professional and motivated, with a strong work ethic, excellent communication skills and a dynamic and flexible approach to their work. Sound decision making skills and the ability and confidence to work alone are essential, but we also need good team players.

Quality reporting skills are of paramount importance, as we operate a sonographer led service with radiologist back up when required.

All our sonographers are encouraged to be proactive in their use of equipment controls and settings, and we see this as a vital part of our student education process.

We have embedded a robust system of clinical audit with regular feedback.

Good teaching skills are a must, as we are involved in the training of radiology and obstetric registrars as well as having a rolling sonographer training program.

Candidates with experience/ qualifications in only specific areas, and part time applicants should apply.

Applicants are required to hold the PGCert/ PG Dip in Medical Ultrasound from a CASE recognised University and must have worked as a sonographer in the NHS (or an equivalent service in the UK) within the last 3 years. Newly qualified sonographers fulfilling the above criteria should apply are encouraged to apply.

Job description Job responsibilities

Provide a high quality, accurate and comprehensive ultrasound service to patients and referrers, undertaking all examinations for which adequate training has been given Perform to consistently high standards. Identify and actively promote best practice. Communicate verbally with patients during and after their examination, including giving them appropriate details of their results (where appropriate and in accordance with departmental policies). Use the ultrasound equipment to the best of your ability, ensuring the highest standards of image optimisaton. Justify and vet ultrasound requests. Schedule inpatients at weekends/ out of hours where appropriate. Provide verbal and written reports on ultrasound examinations to referrers and other clinical staff. Review existing policies and procedures, suggesting alterations and improvements where necessary to improve workflow and quality of service. Promote communication by attending and participating in departmental meetings Manage workloads efficiently and effectively. Ensure familiarity with all software systems utilised within the department, dealing and reporting with problems as they arise, and communicating solutions with colleagues. Perform miscellaneous duties as and when requested by the Superintendent Sonographer or the Service Manager. Undertake duties in a caring and professional manner. Delegate duties where and when appropriate to ensure a strong team approach.
