About this role

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the nurse led Dorset Bowel Cancer Screening Centre. You will join a highly skilled, motivated team delivering Bowel Cancer population screening to Dorset. Dorset residents are offered screening from ages fifty years up until seventy five years. Enabling the early detection and treatment of colorectal cancers. Successful candidates will be employed by University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust, based at the Poole Hospital site. There will be an expectation that you travel to three other screening sites within Dorset.

The successful candidate will provide expert knowledge, high quality care and psychological support to Dorset Bowel Cancer Screening subjects and their families.

This role requires NMC Registration

Base Location: Poole Hospital, though you will be required to work across site. This includes Christchurch, Royal Bournemouth Hospital and at Dorset Healthcare.

Interview Date: 8th June 2026

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will support subjects through the screening pathway including

assessing subjects fitness for colonoscopy, supporting subjects to make informed choices, delivering healthy life style advice, reviewing and actioning investigation results including histopathology an delivering investigation results ensuring subjects outcomes are correct.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Registration on Part 1 NMC Register (RGN or RN Adult) Comprehensive applied Anatomy and Physiology for relevant area

Desirable

Degree in relevant subject Specialist knowledge of national and local agenda on improving cancer services, specifically colorectal cancer, endoscopic procedures, valid consent and withdrawal. LJMU Specialist Screening Practitioner module at either level 6 or 7

Experience Essential

Minimum 2 years clinical experience within an acute field Significant relevant post-registration education and experience Evidence of continuing professional and academic development

Desirable

Experience as a Specialist Screening Practitioner within the BCSP Minimum 2 years clinical experience within colorectal/gastroenterology/endoscopy Experience of quality assurance, audit and research Experience of autonomous practice Ability to take informed consent for endoscopic procedures Advanced communication skills 'Breaking bad news, Nurse have I got cancer' including - written verbal and non-verbal including presentation skills, communicating to mixed abilities and communicating complex information

Skills Essential

IT skills as evidenced by: Proficient computer skills and use of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and experience with use of hospital databases (e.g. EPR, etc.) Knowledge of standards setting and Clinical Governance NMC standards and limitations of professional practice

Desirable

Experience with use of variety of databases Ability to carry out health assessment and physical examination. Accurately identify complex physical, social and emotional needs

Personal attributes Essential

Holds full driving licence - to travel between Trusts on a regular basis as required Flexibility in working hours to meet the needs of the service
