Job summary
The Ear, Nose & Throat Department is expanding to meetthe needs of the population of East Kent. We are looking fora dynamic and enthusiastic Head & Neck/ENT Surgeon to join ateam of 11 Ear, Nose & Throat Surgeons. The Trust is goingthrough a period of redevelopment, having attractednational investment to deliver a critical care hub for Kent andMedway. A new 24-bed Intensive Care Unit has been built atthe Willian Harvey Hospital, to include bespoke trainingfacilities, including dedicated space for in-situ simulationtraining. The William Harvey site is also the Trauma centrefor East Kent. Robotic Head & Neck surgery is offeredthrough the Kent and Canterbury site which is also thevascular centre for Kent & Medway.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will be responsible for the delivery of high quality Ear, Nose & Throat patient services, including elective and emergency surgeries, outpatient, day-case and inpatient management. The Consultant will be responsible for prioritising patient lists for outpatient appointments and admissions within the nationally defined targets.

The position holder will have to be involved in all aspects of the patients pathway from two-week wait rule clinics to major surgical resections. The post will require skills in managing both benign and malignant disease.We are looking for a candidate that is Fellowship trained. It is also key to have a high level of training in trans-oral laser resections and robotic surgery. Skills that be put to use straightaway when commencing the post.
The position holder will have continuing responsibility for the care of patients in your charge in liaison with consultant colleagues and for the proper functioning of the department in line with the Operational Policy and Strategic Plan (as amended from time to time).The position holder will be responsible for the professional supervision and management of junior medical staff. If appropriate the post holder will be named in the contracts of junior staff as the person responsible for overseeing their training and as an initial source of advice to such doctors regarding their careers.The position holder will be required to participate in continuing medical education in ways which are acceptable to the Chief Executive. EKHUFT supports the requirements for continuing professional development and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities in line with the EKHUFT Policy.The position holder will be required to participate in and contribute to Clinical Audit in line with the Health Boards policy on the implementation of Clinical Governance.The successful candidate will participate in a 1 in 12 consultant of the week rota to cover East Kent Hospitals. The frequency of this may decrease/increase based on consultant appointments.The on-call week is from Monday 8am to Monday 8am inclusive of Weekend working.A proportion of clinical activities remain and should be completed during the on-call week.During the on-call week, Consultant of the week undertakes daily ward rounds, supervision of ENT emergency clinics, Advice & Guidance referrals, emergency theatres, junior staff teaching and patient administration.The position holder will be required to cover for consultant colleagues' periods of leave
