Job summary We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 Scrub Practitioner to join our Trauma Theatre team at Colchester Hospital. This role focuses on the delivery of high-quality trauma and emergency surgery within a busy and fast-paced environment.You will work primarily within Trauma Theatres, supporting the safe and effective management of urgent and emergency cases. As part of the theatre team, you will contribute to the day-to-day running of trauma lists, ensuring appropriate preparation of theatres, equipment, and instrumentation, and supporting safe and efficient patient flow throughout the operating pathway. You will work closely with colleagues across the multidisciplinary team to maintain high standards of patient care. To join our team, you will need to be a motivated, confident, and adaptable practitioner with experience in the operating theatre environment. Applicants must hold current NMC or HCPC registration. The ability to scrub competently across a range of procedures would be desirable. We are committed to supporting your development and will provide a supportive learning environment to help you build your skills within trauma and emergency surgery. While your primary base will be Trauma Theatres, you may be required to support other areas of the department in line with service needs
Main duties of the job
Prepare the operating theatre for the operating session to include
the safety checking and preparation of instruments, mechanical and electrical equipment and environmental factors perform circulating / scrubbed roles to the level of the grade in the appropriate speciality
Ensure adherence to Trust/local policies, guidelines and other legislation and support National and local initiatives e.g. Saving Lives, WHO Surgical Safety Check List, GIRFT Take part in internal rotation through all areas of the department as required to meet the needs of the service on 24hour basis including trauma

Qualified Essential
RGN/Dip. HE, NVQ III in Operating Department Practice/C&G 752 or Dip. HE Operating Department Practice BSc (Hons ) Operating Department Practice Current registration of professional body
Experience Essential
Experience in an operating theatre environment
Desirable
Experience in both anaesthetics and scrub role
Knowledge Essential
Good understanding of competency based learning Able to produce evidence of clinical ability
