About this role
Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and qualified Mammographer to join the friendly, dynamic multi-disciplinary team at James Paget Breast Unit. Our service delivers both breast screening and symptomatic mammography, utilising state-of-the-art fully digital tomosynthesis equipment across two dedicated mammography rooms, alongside a mobile breast screening unit providing vital screening services within the community.
As part of this dedicated team, you will play a key role in delivering a high-quality, patient-centred mammography service, supporting women at every stage of their diagnostic journey. We pride ourselves on being a welcoming and supportive department, committed to providing a first-class service while actively encouraging continuous professional development, role extension, and career progression.
This varied role includes working on the mobile breast screening unit, which operates across the Great Yarmouth and Waveney area. Due to the nature of this community-based service, a full driving licence and access to a car are essential, as locations may not always be accessible via public transport.
Main duties of the job
As a Mammographer, you will deliver high-quality four-view mammography for both breast screening and symptomatic services, producing images that meet the highest diagnostic standards while ensuring a positive, safe, and patient-centred experience. You will work efficiently within service timeframes, maintaining professionalism and compassion at all times.
You will review relevant clinical history, explain procedures clearly, obtain informed consent, and provide timely advice, reassurance, and emotional support throughout the patient journey, particularly during assessment and diagnostic clinics where sensitivity is essential.
The role includes contributing to the training, supervision, and practical development of student mammographers and other staff as required, supporting learning in line with Trust and professional standards. You will work flexibly to meet service needs, including participation in evening and weekend lists and working across static and mobile screening environments.
You will practice in full accordance with NHS Breast Screening Programme (NHSBSP) guidelines, quality standards, and performance measures, and adhere to national and local policies and protocols. Effective, empathetic communication with patients, colleagues, and the public is central to the role. You will also comply fully with Trust Health and Safety policies and consistently demonstrate and promote the Trust's values and behaviours as a professional ambassador for JPUH
