Job summary Trauma and Related Services (TRS) are excited to advertise a twelve-month secondment position for a band 6 Nurse Specialist in the Trauma Co-Ordinator/ Patient Flow Team from July 2026.
As this is a secondment post, authorisation from your line manager and Matron would need to be granted prior to submitting your application.
Main duties of the job The Clinical Service Unit comprises of Trauma Orthopaedics, Vascular Surgery, Plastic Surgery, High Observation Unit and also the Major Trauma Centre. The role is an exciting one, involving the clinical optimisation and scheduling of acute admissions, and maintaining patient flow/bed management. This includes elective and acute patients within TRS such as emergency department, clinic and tertiary referral patients requiring hospital admission.
The successful candidate will be a registered nurse, preferably with experience in trauma orthopaedic or surgical nursing. Previous experience in patient flow or trauma co-ordination would also be an advantage. This role will involve working predominantly at night following full training and a supernumerary period. Excellent communication skills are essential, as is the ability to be able to work both in a team and independently. You will be required to use your initiative to make decisions in a busy but rewarding environment.

You will be working closely with the TRS Matron/ Clinical site Matron, Consultants and ward teams on a daily basis. You will be responsible for ensuring efficient and effective patient pathways are achieved. Out of hours you will hold the bleep holder to support ward areas and offer advice.
