About this role

Job summary

A unique opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Research Fellow to join and support the delivery of the research and clinical activities carried out within our award-winning Rheumatology Service at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. The post offers excellent training in clinical research methodology and conduct, including clinical trials and observational studies, alongside carefully integrated rheumatology clinical experience.

Main duties of the job

The research element will encompass observational research studies and commercial and non-commercial clinical trials assessing some of the latest treatments in the field. You will function collaboratively within a group of doctors, nurses and clinical research practitioners to achieve team objectives and to maintain and promote the safety and wellbeing of patients, research participants and ensure the integrity of research outcomes.

The clinical component of the role will involve the assessment, investigation and ongoing management of patients attending our specialist rheumatology outpatient clinics at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust (GSTT). The post holder will work under the supervision of consultant rheumatologists, contributing to both general and subspecialty clinics, and will be involved in the diagnosis and management of a wide range of inflammatory and non-inflammatory rheumatological conditions. Responsibilities will include conducting new and follow-up patient consultations, formulating and implementing management plans, interpreting laboratory and imaging results, and ensuring high standards of documentation and communication. The clinical fellow will work closely with the multidisciplinary team, including specialist nurses, allied health professionals and pharmacists, to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care, and will have opportunities to develop advanced clinical skills within a tertiary referral setting.

About us

Our Rheumatology Department is a large, dynamic and highly specialist service providing comprehensive secondary and tertiary care for patients with a wide range of rheumatological and musculoskeletal conditions, serving a diverse inner-London population and receiving complex referrals from across the region and beyond.

The department is recognised for its expertise in inflammatory arthritis, connective tissue disease, vasculitis and related disorders, and works closely with other specialist services across the Trust. Care is delivered through a strong multidisciplinary team comprising consultant rheumatologists, specialist nurses, allied health professionals, pharmacists, research staff and trainees, all committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care.

GSTT has a strong academic culture, with close links to King's College London and an active portfolio of clinical trials and translational research. The Rheumatology Department is actively involved in teaching and training at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and is committed to supporting professional development, innovation and service improvement. As a Clinical Fellow, you will be working in a supportive, forward-thinking environment that values compassion, collaboration and continuous learning, and that encourages staff to reach their full potential while contributing to outstanding clinical care.
