Job summary

A rare and exciting opportunity has become available for a Physiotherapy Assistant Practitioner to join a well-established physiotherapy team supporting the Adults with Learning Disabilities Team in Bedfordshire. This role includes direct patient contact across a variety of settings -- including individuals' homes, educational environments, day services, and residential care -- providing support to patients and their families or carers in managing their physiotherapy needs.

Main duties of the job

To work as part of the Adult Physiotherapy Learning Disability Service, contributing to the delivery of high-quality physiotherapy care for clients with learning disabilities. This includes assessing, planning, delivering, and evaluating person-centred interventions, as well as providing signposting and offering advice where appropriate.

Key Responsibilities

Manage own caseload using clientcentred principles, ensuring all interventions are tailored to individual needs.

Carry out physiotherapy screening and assessment for adults with learning disabilities, and provide appropriate management within this clinical specialty.

Deliver personalised treatment programmes for clients with learning disabilities, including the provision of mobility aids and other necessary equipment.

Determine physiotherapy needs in collaboration with a senior physiotherapist, seeking guidance and support to ensure clinical work is regularly reviewed.

Represent the Physiotherapy Service at multidisciplinary team meetings, ensuring physiotherapy input is fully integrated into each patients wider care plan.

Assess patient understanding and obtain consent, working within legal frameworks when patients lack capacity.

Support training and development by contributing to the supervision and education of colleagues, students, and other healthcare professionals, and responding to queries within your scope of practice.

Develop clinical competence through CPD activities, acquiring new skills and applying them to practice.

Contribute to discharge planning and provide signposting to other services where appropriate.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Practical and teaching knowledge to NVQ level 3 oCompleted Therapy competency training for non-qualified staff; e.g. Progression of mobility, Individual exercise programmes etc.

Experience Essential

oExperience of working practically with Adults with Learning Disabilities oExperience of community working eg schools, social care oFour years as a Band 3

Personal skills Essential

oEmpathy, able to communicate with children, relatives, carers and external agencies
