About this role

Job summary

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Consultant Clinical Psychologist or Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychotherapist to provide strategic and clinical leadership for the Greater Manchester Parent Infant Mental Health (PIMH) pathway and PIMH in the Specialist Perinatal Service.

This is a unique opportunity to shape and transform specialist services for infants and families with complex and high-risk needs, working at system level across health, social care and partner agencies.

You will play a pivotal role in driving innovation, improving outcomes and embedding high-quality, evidence-based care across Greater Manchester's Perinatal and Parent Infant Mental Health whole system approach.

Main duties of the job

You will provide senior clinical, professional and strategic leadership across the specialist PIMH pathway, supporting the development, integration and governance of services across Greater Manchester and in the Specialist Perinatal Service.

The role includes delivering highly specialist psychological assessment and intervention for complex parent-infant cases, offering consultation and supervision to multidisciplinary teams, and leading service development, audit, research and training.

You will work collaboratively with GM PIMH Clinical Leads, system partners, commissioners and senior leaders to ensure safe, effective and innovative care for families.

Person Specification

Education/Qualification Essential

oDoctorate in Clinical Psychology accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS), with current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC); OR Postgraduate Masters or Doctoral level qualification in Clinical Child & Adolescent Psychotherapy from an ACP-accredited training school, with current registration with the Association of Child Psychotherapists (ACP). oEvidence of additional specialist post-qualification training, research or advanced study conferring highly developed theoretical and practical knowledge in Parent Infant Mental Health (PIMH) and Under 5 services.

Desirable

oPostgraduate qualifications in leadership, strategic management, service improvement or commissioning. oQualification in specific PIMH psychotherapy. oSupervision qualification.

Experience Essential

oSufficient experience as a qualified PIMH psychological therapist, to develop the necessary competencies to fulfil the senior and specialist role as described. oExperience of one or more areas of specialist PIMH psychological/psychotherapeutic assessment and treatment. oSpecialist managerial experience and training, including extensive supervision and management of PIMH clinical staff. oExperience working within multi-agency and multi-disciplinary mental health services.

Desirable

oExperience of leading a service. oExperience of working with multi-cultural staff and local population. oExperience of managing multi-professional teams. oExperience of teaching, training, and supervision.

Knowledge Essential

oAdvanced theoretical and practical knowledge of PIMH psychological approaches to the treatment of the users of PIMH services. oKnowledge of relevant legislation and its implications for clinical practice with the users of PIMH services. oWell developed, effective communication skills, both orally and in writing, enabling complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to be shared with clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues within the NHS and other agencies. oSkills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional bodies. oAn understanding of the needs of psychological therapists at all grades (pre and post-qualification).

Desirable

oPublication of pure and/or clinical research in peer reviewed journals. oDeveloped knowledge of research methodology, statistical analysis and publication level written communication skills. oTraining in management skills relevant to mental health services. oCompletion of appropriate supervision training course.

oAbility to prioritise work, meet short deadlines and an unpredictable work pattern, which requires regular revision of plans. oAbility to work at a high level of professional autonomy and responsibility. oAbility to work and communicate highly sensitive, contentious information effectively in a highly emotive or hostile atmosphere, and to overcome barriers to acceptance/psychological resistance to potentially threatening information. oAbility to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate to support and maintain clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour. oAbility to work towards goals agreed at individual appraisal with the SSCG Professional Lead for Psychology and the GM ICB PIMH Strategic Lead. oAbility to work to professional practice guidelines of the appropriate professional body.
