This is a 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) with 7.5 Direct Clinical Contact activities (DCC) and 2.5 Supporting Professional Activities (SPAs). The purpose of this job description is to outline the level of responsibility and accountability of this post. This will ensure that all work undertaken by our staff is clearly identified and carried out under clear lines of accountability.
Main duties of the job This is a well-established post that has been vacant due to the previous consultant leaving the organisation. A lot of transformation has taken place already and continues to take place within Barking & Dagenham Adult Community Services. This post is currently vacant, and we wish to recruit substantively to this post as soon as possible.
This is a replacement, substantive, full-time post - 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) post with 7.5 Direct The postholder will be part of the Senior Psychiatrist on-call rota covering out of hours and weekends for Mental Health Services in NELFT. The on call will cover service delivery for Adults and Older Adults presenting with mental health problems. This is currently a 1:50 rota with a 3% Category A salary supplement. The trust has also a daytime (9am - 5pm) Section 136 rota, with an approximate frequency of one day every three months

The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team providing care to adults with mental health needs who are registered with a GP Practice located in the northern part of the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham (plus a small number of patients who reside in that part of the Borough but whose GP is elsewhere).
The successful candidate will provide senior medical support to the team, and direct input on clinical cases. The consultant will be expected to provide guidance and supervision to the team, work directly with adult patients (and their families), and liaise as appropriate with other external mental health providers, and acute hospitals. You will be one of 2.0wte Adult Consultant Psychiatrists in the North Team and Dr Steven Linford). There is also a full time SAS doctor allocated to your team along with Core Trainee, a GPvTS, and Foundation Year trainee in the team.
We receive Year 4 medical students on clinical placement from Barts & The London School of Medicine, Queen Mary, University of London (QMUL) as well as Physician Associate students from QMUL and Anglia Ruskin University. There are opportunities for consultants to take an active role in teaching both in terms of clinical work and curriculum delivery as well as delivering lectures and acting as examiners in the Clinical Examinations at QMUL.
The postholder will have access to designated office space at Becontree Centre, Dagenham.
1.2: Main responsibilities
• To be responsible for organising and prioritising own workload in the day-to-day allocation of work.
• To have organisational knowledge relating to Trust protocols and procedures and adhere to them.
• To be responsible for providing accurate records of information required by the Trust for audit purposes.
• To contribute to effective risk management at team level by accident/incident reporting, assessing, and controlling risk and ensuring residual risks are added to the Trust’s risk register.
The post holder will contribute to statutory work in assessing children in care for Initial Health Assessments and child protection medicals. They will also support management of complex Paediatric Neurodevelopment within the service. (including motor disorder, Down’s syndrome, dyspraxia, chromosomal and genetic conditions, and other syndromes).
Clinical Skills:
• To act as an autonomous, registered practitioner who is legally and professionally accountable for own unsupervised actions guided by the professional code of conduct and Trust guidelines and protocols.
• The post holder will have full registration with a licence to practice with the General Medical Council (GMC).
Training & Supervision:
To ensure own continued professional development and support a culture of lifelong learning in self and others. To undertake, and assist, in the planning of own mandatory training and workshops. To undertake a regular appraisal, developing a personal development plan that includes clinical competencies reflecting the health needs of the local population and relates to Trust strategy. To support new staff and their integration within the team. To support training as part of the role including changes to professional development and implementation of new policies and guidelines. Education:
To contribute to in-service training for trainees, and other members of the multidisciplinary team. To contribute to the teaching of Medical Students and Trainee Doctors.
Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
Registration with the GMC with a licence to practice.
Desirable
Higher degree e.g. DCH, DCCH MSc, or MRCP
Experience Essential
At least 4 years post graduate training including community paediatrics (or demonstrate equivalent experience and competences ) Knowledge and training in Child safeguarding Valid Level 3 Safeguarding Training.
Desirable
Specialist experience / training in particular area of CCH practice. Training in objective developmental assessment e.g. Griffith Developmental Scales. Training in Autism assessment e.g. DISCO or ADI/ADOS.
