About this role

Job summary

University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) is a tertiary referral Cancer Centre with five outpatient day case units, four inpatient wards and many outpatient clinics. The cancer pharmacists at UHB are well integrated into all aspects of this service, including ward pharmacy activities, day unit responsibilities and several different pharmacist-led clinics. We have close links with the School of Pharmacy at University of Birmingham and have a strong track record in delivering and supporting educational and research activities.

We are looking for a Specialist Pharmacist for Cancer Services to join our large and enthusiastic team, to provide a high level of specialist pharmaceutical care to our patients in oncology. We already have several pharmacists working independently within clinics and we are keen to further develop these roles and give our team the opportunity to become specialists in particular areas of oncology or haematology.

In addition, we hope you have a passion for education and training to support the growing number of junior pharmacists within the cancer pharmacy team. We will also support and encourage you to develop your own research interests and to develop yourself as a Specialist Clinical Pharmacist.

Main duties of the job

Ensure safe and effective provision of clinical pharmacy services to cancer patients on the day units and wards.

Lead and develop clinical pharmacy services in oncology / haematology

Manage and supervise Cancer Services pharmacists, overseeing performance, education and training and their professional development

Provide medicines financial oversight to a directorate

Contribute to clinical audits, research trials, and service evaluations.

Support education and training of pharmacy staff and healthcare professionals

Work independently as a pharmacist in clinics

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

*4 year vocational Masters degree in pharmacy (or equivalent) *Post-graduate clinical pharmacy qualification or equivalent experience *Membership of the General Pharmaceutical Council *Willingness to work towards nonmedical prescribing qualification

Desirable

* Working towards Level I Faculty Membership with the RPS * Non-medical prescribing qualification

Experience Essential

* Significant post-registration hospital pharmacy experience in oncology * Possesses relevant clinical knowledge in oncology * Demonstrates good knowledge of oncology and current issues * Previous participation in multi-disciplinary team * Demonstrates commitment and enthusiasm for providing high quality pharmaceutical care * Demonstrates good critical appraisal skills * Knowledge of national initiatives and guidelines, e.g. NICE, NSF * Possesses knowledge of available resources to answer Medicines Information queries * Able to work with drug budget information

Desirable

* Experience of teaching/presenting to other healthcare professionals/patients * Ability to manage budgets and deliver on cost improvement programmes * Previous involvement in clinical trials
