About this role

Job summary

We are recruiting for a Health Care Assistant who will work as part of the primary healthcare team providing Personal Medical Services to patients of the Practice.

This post is for up to 30 hours per week working on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday as per the service need of the practice. The role involves travel between two sites (Lofthouse Surgery, Wakefield and The Manse Surgery, Rothwell) and may include occasional home visits. Applicants must be able to meet the travel requirements of the post.

Please note interviews will be held on Wednesday 17th June.

Main duties of the job

Working under the direct supervision of the Lead Practice Nurse and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the healthcare assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

Our surgery provides care to over 11,000 patients across 2 sites: Lofthouse Surgery and The Manse Surgery. We have 8 Doctors, 3 qualified Nurses and 2 Health Care Assistants who work at the practice, and we are looking to employ a Health Care Assistant to complete our team.

We are a member of the NHS Leeds Integrated Care Board and we are also a member of the Leeds 25/26 Primary Care Network.

Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by Practice Lead Nurse, GPS and Practice Manager. New Patient Health Checks NHS Health ChecksInformation gathering for chronic disease Basic Wound Care Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician ECG Recording Phlebotomy Vaccine / Cold Chain Storage, monitoring and recording Maintaining GP and Nurses rooms, stocking and rotating items as required Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms Maintain stock of waiting room leaflets as instructed by partners and Practice Manager Ordering of Health Promotion Literature Ordering of stock Participation in administrative systems in the Practice Attending all training meetings at TARGET or at the practice At all times there will be a need to maintain accurate records A duty to advise senior staff of potential problems or errors within the range of assigned tasks Attend and participate in any Practice meetings when required. Undertake home visits as required by the practice Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post by the Partners or the Practice Manager

Person Specification

Experience Essential

Previous experience in an Health Care Assistant role (Primary Care preferable). Experience of working in an integrated multi-skilled team. The ability to follow direction and standard operating procedures whilst also using own initiative. Excellent communication skills. The ability to be compassionate at all times.

Desirable

Experience of using a range of IT including knowledge of using SystmOne.

Qualities/Attributes Essential

A real desire to provide quality service to patients. Confident and enthusiastic. Reliable and resourceful. Willing to work flexible hours as necessary. A keenness to develop the traditional role of a Healthcare Assistant and take on new tasks and responsibilities. Calm under pressure. Conscientious and committed to the organisation. An understanding, acceptance and adherence to the need for strict confidentiality. Ability to work in a changing environment.

Qualifications Essential

Formal Healthcare Assistant qualifications are preferred. Experience working in the primary care setting would be beneficial. Phlebotomy qualification/training.

Desirable

Experience of HCA working, knowledge of Primary Care and the NHS.
