The post holder will be responsible:
To co-ordinate and manage all aspects of Portering & Waste Services across the Walsall Manor NHS site on a day to day basis, with specific objective of promoting a customer orientated image and to improve standards and compliancy throughout Portering & Waste Services.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for providing operational support to all Portering supervisors across Walsall Manor Hospital Site, to include management of rotas, sickness meetings and monitoring staff absence.
To implement policies for the Portering & Waste service ensuring staff are aware of changes to existing policy and introduction of new policies
To support the Facilities Manager (Portering & Waste) and monitoring the team in initiating segregation and compliancy regarding waste disposal across the trust.

Job description Job responsibilities
Responsible for the supervision of the Portering & Waste services within Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust and to ensure the standard of Portering & Waste services are maintained.
To receive requests for Portering & Waste services, provide assistance and delegate the staff required to carry out these duties.
The Senior Supervisor will liaise with the Facilities Manager.
The Senior Supervisor will be responsible for ensuring IPDR, Mandatory Training and development courses are current and up to date for the Supervisor team across both services.
To ensure the trust is adhering to waste legislation and recycling guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
1.Assist the Facilities Manager with the development of the service, ensuring that this is achieved within the confines of the budget.
2.Ensure that the requirements of the Health & Safety Act and all local rules and Policies/procedures that apply are implemented and followed.
3.Maintain records of all Portering staff attendance/absence, i.e. sickness, Annual leaves etc. and draws attention to any areas of concern relating to high levels of absence.
4.Check and counter sign timesheets against work rotas and transfer this information onto the staff rota.
5.To supervise the day-to-day operation of Portering & Waste requirement of the Hospital.
6.Deal with initial disciplinary and grievance matters in accordance with the Trusts Policy and procedures.
7.To undertake counselling of staff in accordance with the Trusts policy and Procedure.
8.To ensure staff are up to date with all mandatory training and to assist in the training/induction of staff.
9.Ensure all ad-hoc work is carried out in an efficient manner wherever possible.
10.Assist in the recruitment and selection of staff.
11.Undertake Portering & Waste duties, by following waste regulations, segregation guidelines and recycling plan.
12.Undertake daily checks of Medical gas levels, maintaining adequate stock levels and keeping record of all delivery notes.
13. In the absence of a supervisor, carry cardiac arrest bleep and Supervisors Mobile phone and respond in accordance with the Trust policies and procedures.
14.Report immediately, items for repair to 7500 and keep Facilities Manager informed on ongoing problems with equipment.
15.To liaise with other Supervisors/Managers in the Estates and Facilities Directorate to maintain an efficient service.
16.To ensure rotas and working hours are monitored and controlled within defined limits.
17.To follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
17. To undertake training relevant to the post.
18. To demonstrate a basic knowledge of waste and recycling legislation.
19. Communicates effectively with Managers when planning work to maximise efficiency and utilisation of resources.
20. Undertake training and updating on regulations, standards, procedures, local rules, and new techniques appropriate to work undertaken.
21. To attend meetings on/off site to further develop knowledge of the role.
22. To keep a chronological record of all delivery notes.

Qualifications Essential
oAble to read and write. Basic Education to GCSE Grade 4 English and Mathematics oDemonstrable experience is advantageous oPossession of Basic Waste Management. oQCF Level 2 or willingness to work towards or relevant experience
Knowledge/ esperience Essential
oAbility to work effectively as part of a team. oAble to demonstrate basic knowledge of Health & Safety oKnowledge of NHS Portering and Waste standards oHospital practices
