About this role

Job summary

We are currently looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and motivated Occupational Therapist to join our older people's acute directorate based at The Woodlands in the Home Treatment Team.

As an Occupational Therapist, you will be a member of the multi-disciplinary team, which includes medical staff, nursing, psychological therapies, and others.

Using occupation as the foundation, and with an emphasis on rehabilitation, recovery, and empowerment, you will contribute to the delivery of assessments, individualised interventions, and therapy/care planning as part of the team. You will be the key worker for a defined number of patients whose primary need is for Occupational Therapy intervention.

Main duties of the job

The job is varied and challenging and offers the opportunity to be an integral part of the Older Peoples Home Treatment Pathway. Key elements of the post include taking the lead on the development of recovery and occupation focused interventions, building and refining a HTT occupational therapy pathway, to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, assessing occupational needs and providing evidence-based short-term, intensive, community based occupational therapy interventions to complex patients experiencing acute mental health.

To supervise junior staff/support staff to deliver community interventions enabling patients to develop and/or maintain independent living skills and work towards individual recovery goals.

To develop links with statutory and voluntary sector community resources and ensure that ongoing occupational needs are addressed as part of a safe effective discharge/transfer process.

The Allied Health Professionals and occupational therapy network within the organisation is supportive, providing opportunities for collaboration and participation in development of practice and services and to build your own knowledge base and experience. The trust also encourages staff to be involved in wider integrated professional workstreams and development opportunities.

We have strong links with local universities and provide regular practice placements for Occupational Therapy students.

Person Specification

Additional Requirements Essential

To abide by Royal College of Occupational Therapists Code of Conduct and Trust Policies and Procedures.

Desirable

Membership of professional body. Membership of RCOT Specialist Section.

Qualifications Essential

Diploma / Degree in Occupational Therapy. Registration with Health and Care Professions Council. Practice Placement Educator Qualification. Willingness to undertake post-graduate study relevant to service area.

Experience Essential

Appropriate demonstrable post registration experience with demonstrable experience at senior level in mental health services for adults. Supervisory responsibility for staff. Documented evidence of continuing professional development. Experience of research and audit procedures.

Desirable

Experience of a range of mental health settings

Knowledge Essential

Specialist knowledge and application of occupational therapy assessments and interventions relevant to client group. Understanding of occupational therapy outcome measures. Detailed knowledge of mental health legislation and current practice. Knowledge of principles of Recovery and person centred approach to care. Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation. Detailed knowledge of clinical governance and its application. Ability to analyse professional and ethical issues.

Skills/Abilities Essential

Extensive demonstrable clinical experience including individual and group work. Excellent communication skills - written and verbal. Ability to organise and respond efficiently to complex information. Ability to work autonomously and set own priorities. Ability to build effective multidisciplinary/agency working relationships. Problem solving abilities. Supervisory/appraisal skills. Leadership skills Presentation skills. Training and facilitation skills. Computer literacy. Ability to reflect and critically appraise own performance.
