Job summary
Responsible for undertaking a range of clerical and receptionist duties within the Haematology Day Centre and Haematology ward and supporting the day to day activities of the unit as delegated by the nurse manager and the ward sisters. Although based in the Haematology Day Centre you will be expected to take part in the rotation and provide cover where necessary.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job The post holder is responsible for providing comprehensive administrative and receptionist support to outpatient clinics, the Day Unit and Ward, including managing patient appointments, admissions, discharges and records using the PMS system. They act as a key point of contact for patients, visitors and staff, handling enquiries, bookings, transport and interpreter arrangements, while ensuring accurate maintenance, preparation and filing of patient case notes and investigation results. The role also includes general clerical duties to support the clinical team and ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the service.

Qualifications Essential
Good general education to GCSE Level. ECDL/IT/Basic keyboard qualification
Desirable
NVQ in Customer Care.
Experience Essential
Experience of dealing with the public in a busy environment in a previous NHS/Healthcare environment.
Skills Essential
Excellent communication skills both oral and written. Proven customer care skills. Ability to adapt quickly and learn new skills.
Desirable
Knowledge of MS Office/Windows based programmes.
Special Knowledge Essential
Experience of using electronic booking system. Understanding of patient confidentiality.
Desirable
Working knowledge of patient information systems (PMS) used by the UHB. Basic knowledge of Haematology conditions.
Personal Qualities Essential
Professional approach in dealing with people. Ability to organise and prioritise own workload. Good team player. Calm under pressure. Sympathetic to patient conditions. Able to work without direct supervision.
