As a Preceptee Midwife at Kettering General Hospital, you will undertake a bespoke preceptorship programme to support your transition from student to registered, practicing professional.

During this period, you will receive guidance and support from experienced midwives, gradually gaining confidence and competence in delivering care to mothers and newborns. The role involves learning to manage antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care, ensuring safe and effective practice while developing professional skills and knowledge. The post holder will be rotational through Days, Nights, Weekends and within all areas of our Maternity Services.

Main duties of the job

Provide safe and effective care to mothers and babies during pregnancy, labour, birth, and the postnatal period, within the scope of practice. Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate midwifery care, ensuring documentation is accurate and up to date. Support women and their families by offering information, guidance, and emotional support throughout their maternity journey. Work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team, escalating concerns and seeking advice when required. Participate in ongoing learning and development, attending preceptorship sessions and reflecting on practice to build confidence and competence. Adhere to Trust policies, professional standards, and guidelines to maintain patient safety and confidentiality. Contribute to health promotion and education, advocating for women's choices and respecting cultural differences. Assist with clinical procedures, medication administration, and monitoring the wellbeing of mothers and newborns. Report incidents and safeguarding concerns promptly, following organisational protocols. Complete clinical competencies to achieve progression to Band 6

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

NMC Registered Midwife Diploma / Degree level qualification or equivalent Completed Midwifery Training in the UK within the last 12 months
