About this role
We're currently recruiting for a TemporaryEnvironmental Health Technical Support Officer to join a busy and professional Public Protection team in Crawley. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong administrative and customer service experience who is looking to develop a career within Environmental Health and Licensing.
Required start date: 9th November 2026
Hours of work: 21.5 per week
Rate of Pay: £35.00 per hour
Contract duration: 19 weeks
Key responsibilities include
- Responding to customer enquiries via phone, email, and face-to-face.
- Processing and allocating service requests to the relevant teams.
- Providing administrative support across Environmental Health and Licensing services.
- Assisting with the processing of licence applications, permits, and regulatory documentation.
- Maintaining accurate records and updating internal systems.
- Supporting pest control services, including bookings and customer communications.
- Preparing correspondence, reports, and consultation documentation.
- Assisting with complaints, information requests, and general departmental projects.
We're looking for candidates who have
- Experience in at least one of the areas covered by the Environmental Health Team.
- CIEH Basic food hygiene certificate or equivalent in another area, such as licensing or pollution control.
- Understanding of procedures used for licensing of premises and regulated entertainment.
- Previous administrative and customer service experience.
- Excellent organisational skills and strong attention to detail.
- Confident IT skills and experience using databases or case management systems.
- The ability to manage a varied workload and prioritise tasks effectively.
- Strong communication skills and a professional, positive approach when dealing with the public.
- Experience within Environmental Health, Licensing, Local Government, or a regulatory environment would be advantageous.
