Requirements
- Experienced IT Operations Engineer, IT Support Engineer, Windows Systems Administrator, Windows Systems Engineer, or IT Operations Specialist; experience in a Civil Service, Royal Navy, Royal Air Force, or Army background is ideally suited.
- Able to create and configure virtual environments, manage resource allocation, and investigate and resolve virtual environment incidents.
- Able to install, configure, and administer Microsoft Windows Server operating systems, administer remote desktop services, and investigate and resolve Windows Server incidents.
- Practical or theoretical understanding of VMware vSphere or equivalent virtualization platforms, such as Nutanix, PVE, Hyper-V, KubeVirt, Kubernetes, or XCP-ng.
- Understanding of Windows Server 2019 or equivalent, including Windows Server 2022 or 2025.
- Understanding of HPE Nimble administration and integration or equivalent, such as HPE Alletra.
- Understanding of automating administration with Windows PowerShell or equivalent tools such as Bash or Python.
- Understanding of Arctera Backup Exec or equivalent, such as Veeam, VDP, or Catalogic DPX.
- Must be willing to undertake an SC security check for work on an MoD base.
Responsibilities
- Provide Windows-specialist CIS IT operations engineering expertise to support current and future priorities of the MoD organisation.
- Maintain and implement cybersecurity best practices and safeguards to protect the organisation against potential cyberattacks.
- Provide written and verbal IT operations advice, mentoring, and guidance to the CIS team and technical and programme management.
- Capture customer practices, processes, and requirements.
- Identify operational difficulties, patterns, inefficiencies, and opportunities to improve effectiveness in CIS operations.
- Manage, maintain, and optimise core IT infrastructure, including servers, networks, cloud services, and software systems, to support reliable, secure, available, and scalable technology services.

We are recruiting exclusively for a modern, long-standing commercial defence business based in Lincolnshire. Our client delivers operationally focused services to the defence industry and the Ministry of Defence, including UK and overseas Armed Forces. In this key role, you will work on an MoD base, report to the Programme Manager and the end-user MoD client, and help develop, deliver, maintain, and support a Lincolnshire-based MoD organisation. The position is five days a week on-site with no hybrid working. It is commutable from Lincoln, Sleaford, Spalding, Boston, Newark, Gainsborough, Retford, Worksop, Holbeach, Grantham, Long Bennington, Stamford, Scunthorpe, Nottingham, and Mansfield.
