Requirements
- Extensive experience as a Technical Architect, Solution Architect, or Lead Architect in Financial Services
- Strong understanding of Custody Services, Securities Services, Capital Markets, or Post-Trade processing
- Experience in one or more of these domains: Securities Settlements and Clearing, Asset Servicing or Corporate Actions, Transaction Management, Cash Management and FX, or Tax Processing
- Strong software engineering background with Java, Spring or Spring Boot, and Oracle, SQL Server, or PostgreSQL
- Experience designing microservices architectures, event-driven systems, domain-driven designs, and distributed platforms
- Experience with Kafka, IBM MQ, Solace, or similar messaging technologies
- Strong API and integration architecture experience, including REST and OpenAPI standards
- Exposure to AWS and modern cloud-native architectures
- Experience with architecture governance frameworks and technical review boards
- Desirable: Knowledge of SWIFT Messaging and ISO 20022 standards
- Desirable: TOGAF or comparable architecture certification
- Desirable: AWS cloud certifications
- Desirable: Exposure to AI, Generative AI, or AI-assisted development tooling
- Desirable: Experience in Agile, Scrum, or SAFe delivery environments
- Ability to influence senior stakeholders and provide architectural direction across large-scale transformation programmes
- Strategic thinking combined with hands-on technical expertise; comfort working in a fast-paced, complex, highly regulated environment
Responsibilities
- Lead solution architecture across critical custody and securities services platforms
- Design and deliver modern microservices and event-driven architectures
- Define integration patterns using APIs, messaging technologies, and cloud-native services
- Drive application modernisation initiatives, replacing legacy and batch-based systems
- Establish and govern architecture standards for performance, resilience, security, scalability, and recoverability
- Lead architecture reviews and support governance processes, including Permit to Build activities
- Partner with development teams to ensure architectural alignment throughout delivery
- Evaluate third-party platforms and contribute to build-versus-buy decisions
- Identify and manage technical debt and define long-term remediation strategies
- Build proof-of-concepts to validate new technologies and integration approaches
- Explore opportunities to use Generative AI and emerging technologies to improve engineering productivity and governance processes

We are seeking a Senior Technical Architect to help modernise our global Custody and Securities Services technology landscape in a large-scale financial services environment. The role supports complex post-trade platforms spanning areas such as Securities Settlements, Asset Servicing, Transaction Management, Cash and FX Processing, and Tax Operations, and involves partnering with engineering, product, and business stakeholders to shape architecture strategy and platform transformation. This is a 12-month contract based in Canary Wharf, London, with three days onsite and two days remote, paying up to £850 per day inside IR35 via umbrella. We welcome candidates with relevant Custody Technology, Securities Services, Capital Markets Architecture, or Post-Trade Transformation experience who are interested in a contract with a leading global financial institution.
