Requirements
- Expert-level Core Java development experience
- Proven experience tuning and optimising JVM performance
- Strong understanding of data structures and algorithms
- Experience developing low-latency, high-throughput, event-driven systems under demanding latency constraints
- Extensive knowledge of concurrency and multithreading, garbage collection, JNI, Java Unsafe, and JNR-FFI
- Experience with networking and Linux
- Nice to have: experience with the Aeron messaging framework; exposure to financial trading, market data, or high-frequency systems; knowledge of distributed systems and messaging technologies; familiarity with observability and monitoring platforms

- Design and develop high-performance Java applications for low-latency environments
- Optimise JVM performance through tuning, profiling, and troubleshooting
- Build resilient, event-driven, and reactive systems that handle high transaction volumes
- Analyse and improve performance across application, JVM, operating system, and hardware layers
- Implement efficient concurrency models and low-latency messaging solutions
- Work with architecture and infrastructure teams to deliver scalable, production-ready solutions
- Conduct performance testing, benchmarking, and capacity planning
- Investigate and resolve latency bottlenecks across distributed systems

We are seeking a Java Low Latency Engineer / Java Performance Engineer to join our high-performing engineering team, which builds and optimises mission-critical, event-driven systems in ultra-low-latency environments. The role focuses on high-throughput, high-frequency systems where performance, scalability, and reliability are paramount. It is based in London on a hybrid basis, with three days in our London office. The day rate is dependent on experience. The sector includes wealth management, investment banking, asset management, and personal and corporate banking.
