Your Impact
As OpenText accelerates its AI transformation, Ireland has become a key strategic R&D hub for advanced AI development, applied AI platforms, sovereign cloud, cybersecurity, and trusted enterprise innovation. As part of this investment, we’re seeking a Principal AI Developer - a technical leader and authority who will design and deliver scalable, production-grade AI systems with full ownership of quality, performance, and real-world impact.
This role sits at the heart of both OpenText’s global AI strategy and the expansion of our Ireland R&D capability. You will play a principal role in building the next generation of sovereign AI for Europe, helping establish our EMEA Centre of Excellence for Agentic AI and Sovereign Cloud. Working at the forefront of multi-agent AI orchestration in regulated environments, you’ll significantly shape how enterprise AI is built and operated at scale.
You’ll lead work across the full AI stack - spanning platform, orchestration, and application layer, rather than operating within a silo, giving you broad and direct influence on enterprise-scale outcomes. You’ll shape AI strategy, architecture and engineering direction at enterprise scale, influencing how AI is researched, developed and deployed across multiple products and teams.
Crucially, this is not just about applying AI - it’s about creating it. You will make a principal contribution to foundational intellectual property in agentic AI, data sovereignty, and cybersecurity, helping define the technology and development standards that will power OpenText’s future, rather than simply implementing existing tools.
What the role offers
- Define AI research strategy and applied research programmes, identify emerging technologies and opportunities, setting research priorities, and using prototyping and market validation to inform product, technology and investment decisions.
- Shape enterprise AI solution architecture, establishing scalable architectural patterns, reusable solution approaches and technical standards across complex initiatives and product portfolios.
- Define the technical strategy for enterprise-scale agentic AI, establishing architectures and standards for sophisticated AI agents, reusable skills, and resilient orchestration ecosystems.
- Advance organizational capability across LLMs and SLMs, prompt engineering, RAG, GraphRAG, vectorization and model tuning, while defining enterprise approaches to identity, memory, security, observability, evaluation and cost optimization.
- Establish strategic integration patterns across MCP servers, MCP tools, gateways and enterprise APIs, enabling secure, scalable and reusable AI capabilities.
- Define enterprise standards for taking AI solutions from experimentation through integration and production deployment, including testing, environments, configuration, release and operational readiness.
- Shape AI-assisted software engineering practices using technologies such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Codex, Amazon Kiro, Gemini CLI and Cursor to improve engineering quality and productivity across products and teams.
- Build strategic relationships across Product Development, Professional Services, IT, business teams, clients, suppliers and partners, aligning stakeholders around complex AI initiatives and driving measurable business value.
What you need to succeed
- Master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Computer Science, Data Science or a relevant technical discipline or equivalent recognized technical leadership strongly preferred; PhD desirable.
- 12+ years’ experience across AI, software engineering, distributed systems and cloud technologies, with significant experience defining architecture and technical direction for enterprise-scale AI.
- Deep expertise in agentic and multi-agent AI, including orchestration, evaluation, coordination patterns and MCP. Experience with technologies such as Google ADK/A2A, Strands and LangGraph/LangSmith is highly valued.
- Proven ability to define enterprise AI architectures, reference patterns and engineering standards for AI agent ecosystems; governing the design of agent collaboration, skills, cards, and orchestration framework that can be adopted across multiple products and development teams, defining strategic integration patterns for MCP servers and MCP tools.
- Deep Python and software architecture expertise, with broad knowledge of modern programming languages (Python and broad proficiency across C++, Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, React, REST), APIs, distributed systems and technology stacks.
- Strong technical depth across the data, machine learning, and cloud foundations required to build scalable enterprise AI products.
- Extensive experience with leading AI platforms such as Google Vertex AI/Gemini, Amazon Bedrock/SageMaker or Microsoft Azure AI Foundry/Azure Machine Learning.
- Proven expertise in taking AI to enterprise scale, addressing identity, memory, security, privacy, observability, traceability, evaluation, resilience, performance and cost with best practices, aligned with NIST Cybersecurity Framework (CSF), ISO/IEC 42001, ISO/IEC 27001, OWASP, GDPR, and SOC 2.
- Strong understanding of DevOps/MLOps, AI security, governance and responsible AI, including modern CI/CD, infrastructure and relevant industry standards.
- Experience defining enterprise DevOps and CI/CD standards, architectures, and best practices leveraging GitHub, GitLab, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, Terraform, Kubernetes, and Docker to enable secure, scalable, and resilient AI solution delivery.
