Job DescriptionThe Manufacturing Engineer supports production operations by designing tools and fixtures, optimizing manufacturing processes, and ensuring a smooth and efficient production flow. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys hands-on problem-solving, 3D CAD design, and implementing continuous improvement initiatives directly on the shop floor in a fast-paced, growing manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design and optimize production flow, tools, jigs, and fixtures using 3D CAD software such as AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, NX, or equivalent.
  • Develop and maintain engineering documentation, including detailed drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and assembly instructions.
  • Collaborate closely with production, maintenance, and manufacturing teams to prototype, test, and implement tooling and process solutions.
  • Identify, lead, and execute process improvement projects to increase throughput, reduce waste, and enhance product quality.
  • Provide ongoing technical support to production teams by troubleshooting manufacturing issues and resolving problems as they arise.
  • Participate in root cause analysis activities and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Support new product introduction (NPI) by developing tooling, fixtures, and manufacturing processes for new parts and assemblies.
  • Assist in maintaining and improving process documentation, work instructions, and standard operating procedures to ensure consistency and clarity.
  • Work hands-on with CNC machines, metal fabrication processes, and other production equipment to validate and refine manufacturing solutions.
  • Collaborate daily with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement and ensure alignment between engineering and shop floor operations.

Essential Skills

  • At least 2 years of experience working as a manufacturing engineer in sheet metal fabrication or sheet metal design.
  • Associates or Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD design and drafting using tools such as AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, NX, or similar software.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, including machining, assembly, sheet metal, or composite manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities in a production environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration and documentation.
  • Team-oriented mindset with the ability to work effectively across functions and with shop floor personnel.
  • Experience with manufacturing engineering in metal fabrication and sheet metal environments.
  • Ability to design and refine production tools, jigs, and fixtures to support efficient manufacturing operations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in designing fixtures, jigs, and grippers for manufacturing applications.
  • CNC programming experience or familiarity with CNC machining processes.
  • Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or other similar 3D CAD platforms.
  • Familiarity with Lean manufacturing principles, process optimization, and continuous improvement tools.
  • Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Knowledge of design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) best practices.
  • Experience creating and improving process documentation, work instructions, and standard operating procedures.
  • Background in fixture design, jig design, gripper design, and tooling development for production environments.

Work EnvironmentThis is a full-time, onsite position based in a manufacturing facility, working Monday through Friday. The role combines an office environment with frequent, hands-on work on the shop floor.
