Job Description
We're looking for a Senior AWS DevOps Engineer to design, build, and operate the cloud infrastructure powering our high availability payment processing platform. You'll own reliability, automation, and security across a complex, regulated production environment handling live financial transactions. This is a hands-on senior role combining deep AWS expertise with a strong automation-first, infrastructure-as-code mindset.
Responsibilities
Develop and maintain procedures to comply with security policies and IT best practices
- Develop and maintain documentation of systems configurations and procedures
- Monitor systems via applications, log files, Elk/OpenSearch and sanity checks
- Actively work on building and migrating PayFast to Kubernetes.
- Maintain our configuration and build management systems
- Database maintenance and implementations
- Serve as an escalation point to resolve problems in Servers and users’ environment
- Work closely with technical team members (cultural fit)
- Must be able to troubleshoot complex issues quickly and effectively
- Research and evaluation of new technologies for our environment
- CI, Testing and release management
- Firewall Administration
- Security and incident response
- Patch management
- Agile working methods, agile planning, time management and planning/prioritisation skills
Requirements
- Certification (Bachelors / RHCE / ISO 27001/PCI) is a plus but not required
- High level of proficiency in Linux based OS
- Cloud Infrastructure (AWS) Associated Certified is a must have
- Containers (Docker + Kubernetes)
- Pipelines (Jenkins/Gitlab Ci)
- Proficiency in a scripting language and application language: Bash, Python, PHP, Perl, Java , Go
- Proven IaC experience in one of: SaltStack, Chef, Ansible, Puppet, Teraform
- Web Servers (Apache, Nginx, fpm, node)
- Load Balancers Experience
- Knowledge of Database technologies: AWS RDS (especially Maria and MySQL)
- NoSql DBs,pub/sub and Key/Value stores: Redis/mongo
- Replication technologies
- Experience in Networking: OSI, (AWS TGW and basic on prem OSI model)
- Queues – Rabbit, MQ
