General Laborer @ Aerotek

Job Title: General LaborerJob DescriptionThe General Laborer supports warehouse and production operations by packaging products, strapping steel coils to skids, cutting wood with a saw to build skids, and maintaining a clean and organized work area. This role also assists with various tasks around the facility to ensure efficient and safe handling of steel products.

Responsibilities

• Package products and securely strap steel coils to skids for shipment.
• Operate a saw to cut wood and build skids used for transporting steel products.
• Assist in making and assembling skids to meet shipping and production requirements.
• Clean and maintain the work area to ensure a safe, organized, and efficient environment.
• Package shipments according to company standards and customer specifications.
• Strap and secure material to prevent damage during handling and transport.
• Assist machine operators with material handling and basic production support tasks.
• Perform general labor duties including lifting, moving, and organizing materials.
• Support overhead crane operations by handling materials and preparing loads as directed.
• Carry out miscellaneous duties in the warehouse and production area as needed.

Essential Skills

• At least 1 year of experience in a general labor role.
• Experience in packaging shipments and materials.
• Ability to strap and secure material safely and efficiently.
• Capability to assist machine operators in a production or warehouse setting.
• Experience with cleaning and maintaining a work area.
• Ability to perform lifting and other physically demanding tasks.
• General labor and warehouse production experience.
• Comfort working in a production environment handling steel products.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Machine operating experience in a production or warehouse environment.
• Manufacturing experience, ideally in steel or related industries.
• Experience working in a small company and handling miscellaneous duties as needed.
• Exposure to slitter machines or steel manufacturing processes.
• Experience supporting or working around overhead cranes.
• Prior experience as a machine operator in a warehouse or production facility.

Work EnvironmentThe role is based in a small, family-oriented operation that has recently moved into a larger facility in Cambridge. The company cuts and distributes steel across North America, and the warehouse and production area currently employs about 10 people on the floor with an ongoing third expansion. The work takes place in an active warehouse and production setting where steel is handled, packaged, and prepared for distribution, using equipment such as saws for cutting wood and overhead cranes for material movement. The environment is hands-on, collaborative, and suited to individuals comfortable with physical labor and working around industrial equipment.

Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cambridge, ON.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
