About this role

Job Title: Human Resources ManagerJob DescriptionThe Human Resources Manager serves as the sole HR leader for a growing manufacturing operation of approximately 115 full-time employees and 11 temporary employees. As a key member of the leadership team, this role oversees all core human resources functions, including employee relations, compliance, payroll, benefits, recruiting, talent development, performance management, and workforce planning. This is a hands-on position ideal for an HR professional who enjoys wearing multiple hats and thrives in a smaller company environment where broad HR ownership is required. The organization seeks a successor to its longtime HR leader who can quickly become a trusted resource for employees, managers, and leadership. Because approximately half of the workforce is Spanish-speaking, fluency in both English and Spanish is required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and administer human resources policies, procedures, and best practices that support the organizations goals.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, maintaining accurate and up-to-date HR documentation.
  • Serve as the primary HR resource for employees and managers across all departments and all shifts, including 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts.
  • Partner with leadership on workforce planning, succession planning, employee engagement, and retention strategies.
  • Support managers in addressing employee relations matters, resolving workplace conflicts, and promoting a positive work environment.
  • Lead and facilitate performance review processes, ensuring consistency and fairness in performance management.
  • Coach managers on employee development, performance improvement, and corrective action, providing guidance on HR best practices.
  • Partner with department leaders to forecast staffing needs and develop effective recruiting strategies for production, maintenance, quality, and shipping roles.
  • Manage full-cycle recruiting for approximately 4050 hires annually, including sourcing, screening, interviewing, and selection.
  • Enhance recruiting processes and provide greater support to hiring managers throughout the hiring lifecycle.
  • Oversee onboarding and orientation activities to ensure new employees are integrated smoothly into the organization.
  • Administer bi-weekly payroll using Paylocity, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of payroll processing.
  • Manage employee benefits programs, including education, enrollment support, and annual open enrollment activities.
  • Partner with benefit brokers and vendors to ensure effective administration and communication of employee benefit offerings.
  • Maintain employee records and HR documentation in accordance with company policies and legal requirements.
  • Support employee training and development initiatives, identifying opportunities for leadership development and workforce growth.
  • Coordinate and track required training programs, ensuring employees meet all mandatory training requirements.
  • Support workers compensation administration, including claims management and employee return-to-work processes.
  • Maintain HR compliance documentation and reporting requirements, including regulatory and internal reporting.
  • Assist with employee leave administration and related programs, ensuring adherence to applicable policies and laws.

Essential Skills

  • Fluency in both Spanish and English, with the ability to communicate effectively with a bilingual workforce.
  • At least 5 years of experience as an HR Generalist or HR Manager, with demonstrated responsibility across multiple HR functions.
  • Experience owning multiple HR functions, including recruiting, benefits, payroll, employee relations, and compliance.
  • Comfortable serving as the primary HR resource for an organization of 125 or more employees.
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws and regulations at the federal, state, and local levels.
  • Proven ability to manage full-cycle recruiting and onboarding processes for hourly and production-oriented roles.
  • Experience administering bi-weekly payroll, preferably using Paylocity or a similar HRIS/payroll system.
  • Demonstrated capability in handling employee relations issues, performance management, and corrective action.
  • Ability to support and guide managers on workforce planning, succession planning, and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Solid organizational skills and attention to detail for maintaining accurate HR records and compliance documentation.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working in a small to mid-sized organization where HR responsibilities are broadly owned and highly hands-on.
  • Experience with bi-weekly payroll processing and payroll administration.
  • Bachelors degree in a related field is preferred; equivalent years of relevant experience will also be considered.
  • Experience with workers compensation administration and employee return-to-work processes.
  • Experience utilizing HRIS systems, preferably Paylocity, for payroll, benefits, and HR record management.
  • supporting hourly workforces and multi-shift operations, including 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts.
  • Experience leading employee development and training initiatives, including leadership development and workforce growth programs.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and credibility with employees and leadership.
  • Ability to thrive in a role with broad HR ownership and significant autonomy, acting as a strategic partner to the leadership team.
  • Interest in stepping up from an HR Generalist position into a management role with full responsibility for the HR function.

Work EnvironmentThe Human Resources Manager works fully onsite in a manufacturing environment, providing support to a diverse, primarily hourly workforce across multiple shifts. Standard working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with flexibility to adjust to a later start time, such as 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., to accommodate interactions with the 3rd shift. The role is highly visible within the facility and involves regular collaboration with production, maintenance, quality, and shipping teams.

HR technologies and equipment include Paylocity for bi-weekly payroll and HRIS functions, as well as standard office tools and systems used for documentation, reporting, and communication.
