Job Title: Forklift Operator (Afternoon)Job DescriptionThis individual will be responsible for off-loading and on-loading goods from containers using a propane sit-down counterbalance forklift. The operator will spend approximately 80% of the shift operating the forklift, requiring them to work quickly yet safely in tight quarters. The freight varies on each trailer and can be very heavy with different shapes, necessitating experience with freight handling. They will use paper shipping documents to ensure the correct loading and unloading of products, transitioning to complex digital shipping software in the coming months. The facility is open but requires maneuvering tight corners, and the operator must be able to move shipments of varying sizes.

Responsibilities

• Operate a propane sit-down counterbalance forklift for loading and unloading trailers.
• Handle freight of various shapes and weights, ensuring safe operation in tight quarters.
• Use paper shipping documents to verify correct loading and unloading of products.
• Adapt to complex digital shipping software within the next few months.
• Navigate tight corners in an open facility while moving shipments of varying sizes.

Essential Skills

• Minimum 1 year experience operating a sit-down counterbalance forklift in a 3PL or LTL environment.
• Valid forklift ticket.
• Good computer skills.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds repetitively.
• Reliable transportation.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• 2-5 years experience in LTL.
• Leadership experience.
• Experience with Truckmate software.
• Ability to work independently and take initiative.
• Comfortable with shop talk.
• Good English communication skills.

Work EnvironmentThe work environment is fast-paced, operating 24 hours based on truck arrivals and departures. It is busy with incoming and outgoing trucks and drivers, with forklifts moving safely but swiftly. The dock accommodates over 50 doors, handling a variety of products from fridges to tires, requiring handbombing as necessary. The multicultural team of approximately 50 operators per shift is independent and dynamic. The dock can be cold, so layering is recommended. Steel-toed boots are part of the dress code, and employees can bring their own or use ones available on-site. The position is for the afternoon shift, 3pm-11:30pm, Monday to Friday.

Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Surrey, BC.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $24.75 - $25.75/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
