About this role

Job summary

We are looking for a passionate and motivated Midwife to join our band 7 team. You have the opportunity to join us at our brand-new Unit "The Beach" at Royal Bournemouth Hospital. We moved to our new unit in March 2025 and we are now fully integrated to life at the beach in Bournemouth. The Maternity unit at Royal Bournemouth Hospital is the centre for all high-risk care in east Dorset and is fully equipped to meet the needs of women and babies with complications, as well as women with normal pregnancies and births. The Maternity Serviceprovides comprehensive Care to women and their families with as muchchoice as possible.3600 babies are delivered byour maternity staff each year, either at home or within the birth centre and labour ward in the hospital. The Maternity Service offers a traditional model of midwifery care with separate teams for the acuteand community service with on-going development of continuity models of care.

Main duties of the job

As the lead for antenatal clinic, you will be responsible for the day to day running of the clinic along side your MDT. Line manage the team and continually review the service for effectiveness and efficiency, whilst driving the service forward. You will also support your wider band 7 team, with covering as Operational coordinator and have a flexible approach to support all aspects of the maternity service.

Demonstrable clinical knowledge and recent experience on a consultant led antenatal care setting. Ability and confidence to liaise with the MDT to seek advice and assistance from the MDT to maintain patient safety, staff safety and patent centred care. To be competent to deal calmly and professionally with patients, relatives and work colleagues in a confidential and sensitive manner. Ability to demonstrate clinical excellence in the coordination and management of midwifery and obstetric emergencies. Attendance at PROMPT (or equivalent) and CTG interpretation training within the past 12 months. Experience of teaching midwives/MSW's. Previous line management and leadership experience. Demonstrable ability to work in a busy environment and cope when the service is uner pressure. Able to demonstrate problem solving and prioritising abilities. Knowledge Knowledge of Trust Values and can demonstrate the attributes. Understanding of wider maternity departmental issues and their impact on Antenatal Ward and Antenatal Ward's impact on other clinical areas. Expert knowledge of national safety and antenatal care agendas and the application to UHD services. Other requirements specific to the role Adaptable and flexible approach to work. Requirement to be prepared to participate in the maternity board holder rota. This may include some weekend and bank holiday commitment. Able to communicate sensitively with women and partners in distressing circumstances. Personal Attributes Positive attitude to training and development. Kind, caring and approachable attitude. Be able to demonstrate the trust values in all aspects of the role both whilst providing care and in the capacity as a midwifery leader. Ability to work as part of a team.
