Job summary
The post-holder will report to, and be line managed by, the Alzheimer's Society UKDTN Lead Research Nurse and work in partnership with GMMH Clinical Research Delivery Manager, the local UKDTN Principal Investigator Dr Ross Dunne, local and national UKDTN and Alzheimer's Society funded staff and the wider clinical and research infrastructure to support the growth of early phase dementia clinical trials across Greater Manchester. Liaising with clinical investigators and both commercial and non-commercial sponsors the post holder will be responsible for the set-up, management and delivery of a range of early phase dementia clinical trials and will be involved in ensuring that the research undertaken safeguards the well-being of the patients and is conducted within research governance legislation and Trust policies for Research.
Working as a key member of the multidisciplinary team the post holder will play a central role in identifying potential participants for a range of early phase dementia clinical research studies including complex interventional trials of investigational medical products. The post holder will also be responsible for directly managing and supporting patients and study partners on early phase dementia clinical trials.
Main duties of the job
The Alzheimer's Society have invested £3m to develop the first dedicated dementia research nurse programme working across all 4 nations of the UK. Integrated within the UK Dementia Trials Network, the Alzheimer's Society Research Nurse Programme will fund, develop and support a network of dedicated dementia research nurses to expand capacity and capability in delivering innovative early phase dementia clinical trials across the UK.
UKDTN / Alzheimer's Society Duties:
1. Collaborate with Alzheimer's Society, UKDTN centres, community groups, local Trusts and regional memory and mental health services to strengthen referral pathways and improve access to early phase dementia clinical research.
2. Compile and contribute to Greater Manchester Mental Health Trust early phase dementia and mild cognitive impairment research activity reports (such as milestone reports for Alzheimer's Society and UKDTN)
3. Work in line with UKDTN and Alzheimer's Society objectives to ensure delivery of strategic KPIs 4. Maintain UKDTN live capacity and capability database for Greater Manchester Mental Health Trust

This is a 37.5 hours per week full time, fixed term contract until 31st March 2028. This role is funded by the UK Dementia Trials Network (UKDTN), supported as part of the Alzheimer's Society UKDTN Research Nurse programme, and hosted by Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH).
