Job summary
The Audiologist will undertake all routine audiological and rehabilitation procedures, including direct referrals for hearing aids and open access from GPs. Ensure provision of a comprehensive service to patients referred to the department from GPs and consultants including the provision of the full range of NHS aids including digital aids. Undertake ENT outpatient clinics at Hillingdon and Mount Vernon Hospitals supporting the Consultant ENT surgeons. Assist with the clinical supervision of students. Keep updated with professional knowledge and new technology.
Main duties of the job
Take a medical case history to exclude pathologies that require a medical opinion, and informs which audiometric tests are appropriate. Safely and accurately undertake appropriate test regimes for school age children and adults with hearing disorders including direct referrals from GPs. Analyse and interpret test results. Provide appropriate reports for clinicians and GPs. Provide recommendations as appropriate with respect to further patient management. Provide re/habilitation of adults with hearing disorders including care planning and specialist advice including complex cases.Select appropriate hearing aids and prescription formulae based on the needs, assessment and diagnostic test results.

Take a medical case history to exclude pathologies that require a medical opinion, and informs which audiometric tests are appropriate.
Safely and accurately undertake appropriate test regimes for school age children and adults with hearing disorders including direct referrals from GPs.
Analyse and interpret test results.
Provide appropriate reports for clinicians and GPs.
Provide recommendations as appropriate with respect to further patient management.
Provide re/habilitation of adults with hearing disorders including care planning and specialist advice including complex cases.
Use medical, physical, social and audiological assessment information to assess the appropriate ear mould.
Taking impressions of ears and adjusting or altering ear moulds when required.
Select appropriate hearing aids and prescription formulae based on the needs, assessment and diagnostic test results.
Accurately fit hearing aids using real-ear measurements.
Instruct adult patients and significant others on use of hearing aid, providing relevant information.
Counsel patients and significant others regarding the nature and extent of any hearing deficit in order to ensure maximum benefit from the device and other services available e.g. Hearing Therapy, Social Services, environmental aids, accessories.
Carry out first line management of repair of hearing aids.
Be responsible for ensuring the correct operation and use of all audiological equipment and facilities within his/her jurisdiction e.g. daily calibration and safety checks, decontamination.
Utilise an integrated testing/patient management system, including the input of clinical data accurately e.g. Auditbase patient journal.
Carry out ward visits and hearing aid repairs for inpatients as required.
Order stock and supplies as required.
Share responsibility for the despatch of ear moulds to manufacturer.

Person Specification
Person Spec Essential
Post 2005/06: BSc or equivalent in Audiology. Pre 2005: BAAT Pt 1 & II and/or Btech in MPPM or equivalent Member of AHCS Relevant Audiology experience at Band 5 to include PTA, impedance measurements, hearing aid repairs, hearing aid assessment and fitting. Experience fitting a range of digital hearing aids and using REM. Experience with direct referrals. Knowledge and experience of equipment maintenance and calibration issues.
Desirable
Postgraduate qualification (e.g. MSc) Member of BAA / BSA Previous experience of Oticon, Phonak and GN hearing aids Experience in paediatric audiology assessments.
