Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Plastic Surgeon with a Special interest in Burns, at the University Hospital Birmingham NHS Trust.
The post holder will work as one of a team of Consultant Burns and Plastic Surgeons, covering the Regional Burns Service in the Midlands. The adult burns centre is based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, University Hospital Birmingham NHS Trust. Paediatric burns management takes place at the Birmingham Childrens Hospital. In addition, the post holder will have the opportunity to do an additional plastic surgery subspecialities depending on experience. The postholder will become an integral part of the Burns MDT Team . They will join a well-established and active team of burn surgeons who work across both hospital sites to provide care in both the Paediatric and Adult Burn Centres in Birmingham, as part of the Midlands Burn Operational Delivery Network.
Main duties of the job
The Job Plan will comprise of 10 programmed activities, including burns on-call. The job plan will be subject to the needs of the service and experience of the successful candidate. The final time table will be constructed following discussion with the successful candidate and will result in an agreed job plan. The job plan will be mainly in burns, but there will some opportunities to take part in general plastic surgery.
The appointee will participate in the 1:7 burns on call rota covering the adult burns centre at Queen Elizabeth Hospital and the paediatric burns centre at Birmingham Children Hospital Birmingham Childrens Hospital. Also, the appointee will be part of burns MDT at both QEHB and BCH.
The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to departmental teaching and support residents with projects leading to publications and presentations. The involvement in continuing medical education is an integral part of the advertised post and as such, the successful candidate will be expected to support recruitment to clinical trials and practice evidence-based medicine. The appointee will be expected to participate in all aspects of clinical governance as developed by the Trust to monitor, maintain and develop the quality and effectiveness of care.

The post is subject to the terms and conditions of the Trust which reflect the national consultant contract (England) as supplemented by the Trusts own terms and conditions. The appointee will be expected to work within the facilities available to the Group and any new service developments are subject to the provision of necessary resources within the Trust. There is an active appraisal and development programme and all consultant staff will take part in this process.
The post holder must be fully registered with the General Medical Council with a licence to practise and is advised to maintain up to date membership of a recognised medical defence organisation. The appointee will be required to live within a distance that allows safe discharge of all clinical commitments and no more than a
10 mile distance from the base (unless there is prior agreement with the Medical Director) or 30 minutes travelling of your base hospital.

*Full registration with the General Medical Council GMC, with license to practice. *FRCS(Plast) or equivalent. *On the GMC Specialist Registration in Plastic Surgery; or within 6 months completing CCT Plastic Surgery.
