The Oncology Research Team is recruiting!An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Research Nurse to join the Oncology Research team at St James Hospital in Leeds to work on a specific study. We are seeking a proactive, and self-motivated Research Nurse to take on a pivotal role within the STRONG AYA study, playing a key part in supporting its successful delivery.

This dynamic role involves supporting the recruitment of eligible participants into the study and contributing to associated research activities. This includes screening clinic lists, approaching and identifying eligible participants, and completing accurate data entry into the study database, ensuring data quality and completeness in line with study requirements.

The postholder will work closely with the research nurse and the wider STRONG AYA team to support the effective delivery of the study. This is a fantastic opportunity to be involved in a large-scale research project and to contribute to high-quality research aimed at improving cancer care and services for Adolescents and Young Adults.

This is a part-time post (0.8 WTE, 30 hours per week) on a fixed-term contract until 30/09/2027, in line with the project funding period.

STRONG AYA is a Horizon Europefunded, pan-European programme designed to improve healthcare, research, and policy for Adolescents and Young Adults (AYA, aged 1539) with cancer in collaboration with the University of Leeds.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join the Research & Innovation (R&I) Oncology team within Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, one of the largest cancer centres in the UK.

The postholder will work alongside an experienced research nurse and a wider STRONG AYA team, with close links to both clinical and academic colleagues.

The role is varied and dynamic, involving a mix of patient-facing activity across a range of oncology clinics and specialties, alongside administrative responsibilities. It offers a diverse and engaging workload within a clinical research environment that is both stimulating and rewarding, with a clear focus on improving patient outcomes.

What you will bring to the role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual with an interest in and experience of clinical research to join the STRONG AYA research team. The postholder will be responsible for taking an active role in the coordination, conduct, and delivery of study recruitment-related activities, working closely with an experienced research nurse and wider clinical and research teams. Able to work both independently and as part of a supportive team, the successful candidate will demonstrate excellent organisational skills, high attention to detail, a commitment to quality, a strong work ethic, and the ability to manage workload effectively. Good communication skills and a patient-centred approach are essential, helping to ensure a positive experience for participants throughout the study pathway. In addition, the role involves contributing to the safe and effective delivery of research activities, ensuring all work is undertaken in line with study protocol requirements, Trust policies, local and national guidelines, relevant legislation, and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) standards.
