About this role

Job summary

We are recruiting a Band 3 Paediatric Dietetic Assistant Practitioner position working with Dietitians across all areas of paediatrics and one day supporting adult metabolics.

You will provide support to both in and outpatient paediatric patients and their families under the guidance of the paediatric dietetic team. The day to day duties of the role include a range of administrative duties relating to patient care and service delivery, liaise with health care professionals for optimal food service delivery at ward level, follow up in and out patients as identified by the Dietitian as indicated using a dedicated patient framework, help with administration of out patient clinics including weighing and measuring children, undertake relevant audits and support the adult metabolic team one day a week with identified support duties.

We are a friendly and supportive team of 25 highly regarded paediatric dietitians and dietetic assistants who are integral members of numerous MDTs. We provide both inpatient and outpatient services. The team input into many specialist areas including NICU, SCBU, PICU, Ketogenics, Gastroenterology, Obesity, Oncology, Cystic Fibrosis, Diabetes, Allergy, HEF, Eating Disorders, HPN as well as general paediatric cover. In your role you will be supported and supervised by a Band 7 Paediatric Dietitian and also work alongside other dietitians within specialities.

Main duties of the job

The position is required to be on-site to assist the Dietitians with the changing demands of their caseloads and for supervision. Although we operate flexible working, the Department hours are 0900 - 1700 and you will need to be available to work within these hours.

You will be required to support the Registered Dietitians in the provision of optimal nutrition to paediatric patients in Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for four days a week, plus one day per week supporting the adult dietetic team.

To work under the supervision of the Paediatric Dietetic Team to improve or maintain the nutritional status of children under the care of the Trust as identified by the dietitian or through the completion of the PYMS Paediatric Nutrition Screening Tool.

To liaise with dietitians, nurses, catering and housekeeping staff with regard to the provision of optimal food service delivery at ward level.

To support the dietitians in the delivery of ward based training and in raising awareness of the importance of good nutrition amongst ward staff.

To support the dietitians in a range of administrative duties relating to patient care and service delivery.

Follow up both in and out patients identified by the Dietitian as indicated using a dedicated patient framework.

Qualifications Essential

NVQ level 3 or equivalent level of knowledge and skill. GCSE (Grade C or above) maths and English or equivalent Willing to undertake further training in dietetic practice
