About this role

Job summary

We're looking for a knowledgeable and motivated Cancer Standards Training Lead to join our Cancer Services team and play a key role in delivering high-quality cancer care across North Cumbria.

This role will take the lead in the validation of cancer pathways in line with Cancer Waiting Times (CWT) guidance, ensuring pathways are accurate, complete, and compliant with national standards. You will use your extensive knowledge of CWT guidance and cancer tracking to review patient pathways, identify discrepancies, and take action to resolve issues, supporting the delivery of timely and effective care for patients.

Alongside this, you will design and deliver a comprehensive training programme for MDT coordinators, cancer trackers, and wider teams. You'll ensure all staff are trained to a high standard and understand how to apply CWT guidance correctly, but importantly, you will be a central expert in this area, providing oversight, assurance, and consistency in how cancer pathways are managed and validated across all tumour groups.

You'll also play a key role in improving data quality, strengthening processes, and embedding best practice, helping to ensure the Trust meets national cancer performance standards.

Main duties of the job

Lead the validation of cancer pathways in line with Cancer Waiting Times (CWT) guidance, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with national standards Use specialist knowledge of cancer tracking and CWT rules to identify, investigate, and resolve pathway discrepancies Develop, deliver, and continuously improve a comprehensive cancer training programme for MDT coordinators, trackers, and wider staff Assess staff competency and ensure all team members are trained and compliant with current and updated guidance Provide expert advice and guidance on CWT standards to clinical and non-clinical teams Monitor and improve data quality and pathway management, supporting achievement of national cancer performance targets Develop and maintain training materials, standard operating procedures, and competency frameworks Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to share best practice and drive service improvement
