Hetton Group Practice has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Health Care Assistant who has experince of working in the NHS to join our extensive friendly practice team.
We are seeking a team player with a flexible and commited attitude to work.
The HCA will assist in delivering treatment, preventative care, patient education and health promotion.
Main duties of the job
Working under direct supervision of the Lead nurse and GPs and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the healthcare assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of clinical care.
Duties are varied including phlebotomy, ECGs, Injections (B12/Flus etc) Blood Pressure check (including 24/48/72hrs monitoring), labelling of samples to name a few.

Hetton Group Practice is a forward thinking and innovative practice based in Hetton le Hole. We are looking for someone who has experience, preferably in a GP practice setting.
We are a single site practice with approx. 11900 patients.
The partnership consists of six GP's who are supported by two salaried GPs, two Practice Nurse, three HCA's and an brilliant administration team.
Hetton Group Practice is a training practice for GP Registrars and also take medical students from both Sunderland and Newcastle university.
The practice clinical system is Emis Web.

Duties and Responsibilities: Working under direct supervision of the Lead nurse and GPs and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the healthcare assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of clinical care.
1. Nursing
New patient health checks key role in chronic disease observation monitoring BP monitoring 24 hour BP monitoring Urinalysis/pregnancy testing Phlebotomy Spirometry Ear syringing NHS Healthchecks Administer vaccinations under PSD Assist when necessary with childhood and adolescent immunisations maintaining any Child Health and Practice records including completing any necessary claims, reporting any problems Provide lifestyle advice to patients making any necessary referrals within the Practice Weight monitoring Ensure specimens are labelled and bagged ready for collection with the necessary paperwork completed Ensure sharps bags are ready for collection Restocking/maintenance of equipment and stock rotation Restocking of clinical areas and consulting rooms Assisting in minor surgery and sexual health clinics ECG recording Chaperoning duties Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording2. Participate in the administrative and professional responsibilities of the Practice team
Ensure accurate of all consultations and treatments are recorded in the patients notes
Ensure the clinical computer system is kept up to date with accurate details recorded
Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient health care and registration with the Practice
Ensure collection and maintenance of statistical information required for regular and ad hoc reports
Attend and participate in Practice meetings as required
Assist in formulation of Practice philosophy, strategy and policy
Restocking and maintenance of clinical areas and consulting rooms
To assist in seasonal and special projects as requested e.g. flu campaign
Ordering and display of Health Promotion materials
Working to the protocols and procedures of the practice Taking responsibility for own development, learning and performanceAny other delegated duties considered appropriate to the post
Person Specification
Experience Essential
Experience of working in primary care with good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload. Experience of using computers with good keyboard skills. Experience of working in General Practice
Desirable
Healthcare qualification and experience
Qualifications Essential
General education to GCSE level or equivalent Care certificate or willing to work towards NVQ level 3 in care
Desirable
care certificate or NVQ 3
