About this role

Job summary

Cardiac Care is a 18-bedded inpatient ward (including a 4-bedded Coronary Care area within it). An exciting opportunity to join us as our new Ward Clerk has arisen.

We are looking to welcome an enthusiastic, motivated and dynamic person to our friendly team on a 30 hour per week permanent basis. These hours are to be worked Monday - Friday (flexibility with start and finish times will be considered).

This is a patient facing role - If you possess good organisational & interpersonal skills, enjoy working as part of a team and are willing to adapt and implement change, we would love to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

Main tasks and responsibilities will be to collate, order and process patient records using hospital computer systems, and provide support to patients with a personal approach in the reception area.

The post holder will also be required to provide administrative support to the nurses on the ward when required.

You will be responsible for taking phone calls, liaising with the nursing team and booking transport for the patients, if required. You will also be required to maintain electronic systems including PAS, Patient Action tracker and Electronic Discharge summaries (EDS).

Experience of working in a busy environment is desirable but not essential. However, the ability to be a team player and have the desire to support the team in providing an excellent service for our patients, their families, & carers, most definitely is!

Job description Job responsibilities

The post holder provides general non-clinical advice, information, and guidance to patients, clients, relatives, and carers as appropriate, ensuring efficient administrative support to the clinical team. Use hospital computer systems effectively to ensure accurate and timely recording of patient information and maintain record-keeping functions. Ensure filing and documentation with patient case notes comply with trust and departmental standards. Maintain clerical systems and uphold strict confidentiality in line with Health Records Operational Policy and Record KeepingStandards. Handle telephone and face to face enquiries from patients, relatives, and staff professionally, consulting clinical staff when necessary. Attend and participate in ward meetings as required. Work collaboratively within the team to provide cross-cover and support colleagues. Organise and complete tasks to required standards within agreed time frames. Perform general administrative duties, including emailing, ordering supplies, photocopying, and maintaining documentation. Actively contribute as a team member and participate constructively in the annual appraisal process. Educated to GCSE Level or equivalent

Level 3 NVQ in Administration or equivalent

Experience Essential

Previous experience within a clerical capacity in a Health Care setting

Skills, abilities, and knowledge Essential

Clerical experience within the last 3 years Experience of working with computer systems Evidence of ability to communicate with all levels of staff and members of the general public An understanding of the meaning of confidentiality and the requirement for this to be maintained. Evidence of ability to work on own initiative but also part of a team. Evidence of ability to respond to quickly changing priorities and organising and prioritising own workload to meet deadlines. Evidence of ability to share knowledge and skills with new members of the team and provide support on a daily basis.

Desirable

Knowledge of PAS system, booked admissions or other database system.
