About this role

Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Clinical Fellow who is considering a career in Nephrology or gaining further experience in Nephrology and General Internal Medicine.

The Department of Nephrology, within the Emergency & Integrated Medicine (EIM) ICSU, provides for the care of patients in the hospital specialist outpatient setting and advises on the management and care of hospital inpatients with renal complications.

You will work with a dynamic multidisciplinary team. Your training will mirror that given to doctors in training programs within the department and you will be allocated a Consultant Supervisor to support your career development. You will be encouraged to grow as a clinician and participate in governance including mortality reviews and QIPs as well as departmental and trust-wide educational activities and teaching of medical students.

Job description Job responsibilities

Nephrology outpatient clinics

The postholder will conduct 1-2 general nephrology clinics per week under the supervision of the Consultants. Clinics will be cancelled at the time of other responsibilities, including on-call duties and inpatient ward work. There will also be the opportunity to attend specialist diabetes clinics such as antenatal diabetes, insulin pumps, diabetic foot clinic and joint diabetes/renal clinics.

Ward Reviews

The post holder will provide specialist Renal review and management advice for Whittington inpatients under various teams. For patients requiring tertiary level management, the post-holder will liaise with in-reach Consultants from the Royal Free NHS Foundation Trust, including Vascular Surgery and Renal Medicine.

Ambulatory Care

The award-winning Ambulatory Emergency Care Unit is staffed by a dedicated team of senior and junior doctors and Advanced Clinical Practitioners who see acutely unwell patients, in an outpatient same day emergency care (SDEC) setting, providing an alternative to admission for many patients.

Person Specification

Knowledge Essential

MBBS or equivalent Delivery of good acute clinical care Good relationships and communication with patients

Experience of Nephrology clinics Previous experience of leading acute GIM takes at SpR level

Capacity to communicate effectively at different levels, e.g. with patients and their families Capacity to work cooperatively with others in a multidisciplinary group.
