In 2026, Sheffield Children's will open the National Centre for Child Health Technology (NCCHT) at The Spark - the only facility of its kind in the UK. This £24.2m, purpose-built research and technology centre at Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park will drive the next generation of child health innovation, transforming how care is delivered through advances in technology and treatment. Building on 150 years of innovation, the NCCHT reflects our ambition to lead globally in research and innovation for children's health. The Operational Support Technician will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day operations, with responsibilities spanning portering, security services, estates support, and housekeeping functions. Main duties of the job Reporting into Centre Operations Manager some of your responsibilities will include: Be part of a vital front-of-house support team helping to keep our site safe, welcoming and running smoothly. This varied, hands-on role includes moving and delivering equipment and supplies, managing waste safely, supporting patient movement, and carrying out routine cleaning and minor maintenance. You'll also help maintain site security by monitoring CCTV, managing building access and responding to any concerns, working closely with colleagues across the organisation. Qualifications & Training Essential

Knowledge of a range of procedures for basic testing and repair of estates and maintenance equipment to level 3 vocational qualification or equivalent experience Willingness to undertake additional practical training courses relevant to the role

Desirable

First Aid at Work Level 2

Experience Essential

Experience working in a customer-facing or service-focussed environment Experience carrying out practical hands-on maintenance type tasks such as moving equipment, basic repairs or outdoor work Experience working as part of a team where communication and cooperation are important

Previous hospital portering/domestic experience Use of mobile apps for job reporting and work tracking

Knowledge and skills Essential

Understanding of basic Health & Safety principles, or willingness to learn Awareness of confidentiality and professionalism when working in a healthcare or public facing environment Ability to carry out regular moving and handling tasks safely, including furniture, equipment, deliveries, and waste Ability to follow procedures accurately, especially in relation to waste disposal, emergency response, and security protocols Good communication skills to liaise with colleagues, tenants, contractors, and visitors Ability to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively in a busy, varied environment Basic problem-solving skills, including identifying issues and reporting them promptly Ability to use Microsoft Office applications and simple digital systems
