About this role

Job summary

The Functional Bowel Service is expanding and developing its provision across the University Hospitals Tees sites. This is an exciting time to be involved in the development of a quality, patient-focused service to meet the needs of the local population through innovative nursing practice. The Nurse Specialist with work within a supportive forward thinking Multi-Disciplinary Team who are passionate about improving patient care and access to the service.

Main duties of the job

Autonomously delivering clinics, taking patient history, examination, requesting appropriate investigations and initiating treatments.

Providing teaching and support to patients requiring trans-anal irrigation, sacral nerve stimulation, ACE management and visual biofeedback.

Preparing and attending the Pelvic Floor MDT's.

Supporting Consultants in Specialist Pelvic Floor Clinic.

Triaging of referrals to ensure patients are seen appropriately and in a timely manner.

Contribute to service development.

Involvement in clinical research trials within the service as they arise.

Providing training and support to new staff, students and other healthcare professionals.

Person Specification

Qualification & Training Essential

NMC Level One Registration First Level degree in Nursing Nurse with substantial clinical knowledge and experience of care management.

Experience Essential

Substantial post-registration experience Have the knowledge and experience to successfully complete the basic qualifications to enable practice in nurse led clinics Have an understanding of patients with pelvic floor and functional bowel conditions Evidence of on-going professional and practice development Experience of collaborative working within the MDT

Knowledge and Skills Essential

Effective analytical and reflective skills Effective advanced communication and interpersonal skills Knowledge of relevant NICE guidance Effective people skills Ability to use own initiative Keep accurate patient records and ensure patient pathways are co-ordinated and targets are met Proven ability to plan and manage workload by setting objectives and priorities. Commitment to developing evidence based practice and research Personable and amenable Ability to work under pressure/meet tight deadlines whilst delivering high quality work Flexible, motivated and enthusiastic Committed to the Colorectal service Ability to support patients with psychological distress associated with their bowel disorder
